Everytime I go to Tellico I come through Murphy, NC and down trail 1 into the park. Is there a "quick" way to get from Murphy to Stateline campground WITHOUT getting on Trail 1 that is trailer friendly? I have never pulled my trailer on trail 1 so I am a bit skeptical.....especially if it is wet.
I would think there would be a way that went past Crawford's but I am not familiar with the area.
Last time I stayed at Tellico Cabins so it was not an issue.

Any input?

Thanks,
Eric

I've had to come out that way once when I had a dead rig and my tow rig wouldn't have been able to make it back down trail one. It took about 2 hrs to come around from the Tenn. side back to Murphy. If your coming from Atlanta, you may be able to find a way but I don't think it will happen from Murphy.

edit: You could always stay at the Hanging Dog camp ground on the NC side.

Best bet is to stay on the NC side at Crawfords. But if you are going to the TN side go into Tellico plains and in that way. You can haul across trail one but not fun and if you do drop the Jeep adn do it unloaded. Stop and load back up on the other side. I would stay at Crawfords and not deal with the asshole TN rangers.

you can go up 575 to Copper Hill and to Tellico Plains then over. it's paved but I wouldn't consider it trailer freindly for more than a single car trailer.

I can't find Copper Hill but it looks like the way you are talking about is up 575/515 then take a left (north) onto 68 up to Tellico Plains.
It will be with a 1 car hauler bumper mount.

Thanks for the input.

For the other guys, Crawfords would be good but I like to camp in the park and avoid driving on pavment and Trail 1 every morning/evening if I can. Maybe something to consider though. I need to look into Hanging Dog campground to see where it is.

Eric,
68 is a twisty 2 lane. Mostly a 45 zone. If you think Hanging Dog Rd you'd be close. Being a state Hwy it a foot or two wider. Definetly do able with a 1 car.
575-515 Left on 5 to McCaysville. Turn Left after the bridge and stay on it. About 15 miles up the road the bridge was out and there was a detour the last time I went through there.

Stateline is nice. The access Rd is tight in my motorhome. My rig is not street legal and hauling up each day in the motorhome is not an option. (from crawfords)
The TN rangers are bad news. Last year we got $125 each tickets for drinking a cold beer while cooking a steak. This was ridiculous!
Bring solo cups and keep cans out of site. When the ranger pulls up solo cups go into the fire.
To the point. Last year we went through GA and it was a long and tiring drive on two lanes to stateline. When we came back home we turned right at the hardess and went to the interstate. About 6 hrs from Hardess to Columbia, SC. All interstate, I will pull a map and go this way for sure next time.

Does anyone have a map showing the detail coming into Stateline from the TN side?
Do you have to come through Tellico Plains from I-75?

From 75 you will come into Madisonville. Turn Left at the Hardees and that takes you to Tellico plains. I always tell everyone to keep to the river it will take you right to stateline. Or you can fallow the signs to Bald river falls and Green cove. You will cross the bridge at Bald river falls and Green cove is before the state line.

BTW we haul 25' trailers across from Madisonville to Murphy on 575. Not a problem to come that way pulling a trailer. It is a good road kinda windy in places but a good road.

I went from State Line through Tellico Plains then to Murphy one time and I hope I never have to do it again. IT SUCKED. I would and do much rather tow my trailer accross trail 1. I tow with a four wheel drive with my Jeep on a single car trailer, no problems with trail 1.

If you're coming up I-75, Get off at exit 60 (Sweetwater) onto Hy68. You go through Madisonville on 68 ( NO Turns) It's 25 miles from the interstate to the turn in Tellico Plains. Turn left onto Hy165 (Cherohala Skyway). Go 5.25 miles to Tellico River Rd (Forest Service rd210). There is a sign that says Bald river Falls,Tellico ranger station, Tellico Hatchery. FOLLOW THE RIVER. If you turn away from the river you missed the turn. Stateline is another 18 miles.

Wlamart- your last walmart is in Madisonville. Turn North on Hy 411 go 1/2 mile its on the Right.

Gas. The station in Green Cove says that they will be open and have gas. If you need Diesel you need to stop in Tellico.

I don't know what the love affair is with Crawfords. Whenever I go to Tellico I tow through Tellico Plains, up river road straight to State Line campground. I can be on the trails from there in 5 minutes or less. When you stay at Crawfords it's 45 minutes before you see a decent trail and you've got to drive your rig on pavement for 10-15 minutes as well.

I agree with about the long drive in from Crawford's. I like to stay as close to the trails as possible. Tellico Cabins was nice enough to make the long drive down trail 1 not so bad though.
