: Greenhorn Clean Up and Trail Maintenance April 5th and 6th, 2008
April 5th and 6th, 2008
Greenhorn Clean Up and Trail Maintenance
Remove two vehicles and a mobile home frame from NID property (already
got the OK on this weather permitting). Kilroys will have to come in
from 20 to get this. We'll need at least 10-15 folks for this project
alone.
Remove two vehicles from Steephollow Creek (northwest side at the base of Old Emigrant Trail Rd.) We will need 6 vehicles and 12 people. These vehicles will need to be hauled to Lowell Hill Rd. for Kilroys
to pick up on the Red Dog side.
Remove remnants from an abandoned encampment at the base of the
Steephollow BLM Rd. (southeast side) 2 trucks w/trailers and about 6
people should be able to handle that.
Continuing down Steephollow creek, there are lots of appliances,
computer towers and other targets left by inconsiderate shooters/
users. We will need 5 trucks to cruise down the creek and collect
these items.
Oh, and lets not forget the boat seats and other miscellaneous junk at
the entrance to the creek from Lowell Hill side. 1 truck should work.
So total Needs are 55 people, 15 trucks, 2 trailers AT LEAST!
I am heading out of town, so I need to following help from everyone:
I'll need 4 group leaders :D
Someone who was on the recon needs to call Kilroys and give them the
location of the vehicles on NID property.
I will take care of NID moving the concrete blocks in front of the
encampment.
We will need recycling bins.
Auburn Placer Disposal passes I'll take care of.
Will Les Schwab take the tires again for free?
Will need to hang overnight at VIP, (I really want to experience that
place at night :-) so if you want to camp...bring it!
If there are any other areas that need cleaning up, let us know!
We should have a couple of folks bring BBQ's for Lunch, I'll make a
couple of pots of FOTR ugly Beans (They are the BOMB)
Bring your own Meats and fixins
What we don't get done on Saturday we will finish up on Sunday. And
then.....we play!

Cobra5.0Jeep 03-14-2008, 08:44 PM We got permission from Chad (Steephollow)? Will he be out to help/get to know us?
ErikB 03-15-2008, 09:16 AM I dunno. Is it his? When was escrow supposed to close? The county still has it listed under the Brady name and Walt Wilson's site has it listed for sale, #8. So is it back up for sale or is the web just not updated?
http://waltwilson.com/waltwilsonrealestatefullpropertylisting2.htm
42s on u 03-15-2008, 04:37 PM I'll be there, I'll even camp with ya.
I'll get in touch with the LS guys and set up the tire deal.
I'll be a group leader as well.
Screwzer2 03-15-2008, 04:57 PM Damn, can't make it this time. I'll be working in Vegas.
yotasmob 03-15-2008, 06:47 PM As far as I know I will be able to make it. Just got a new job so if they need me to work I might only be able to make it one day if at all. Going to try and request it off tomorrow though. Otherwise I will be there for sure.
Cobra5.0Jeep 03-16-2008, 11:47 PM I recruited another USFS Firefighter and i will try and get a couple of my CDF friends to come along as well for this.
JDunn 03-17-2008, 11:01 AM I will be there to help. I hope we have some good weather. If we have access threw steephollow for the weekend I will camp with you all but if not I really do not want to leave the tow rig alone all night.
I am headed to Sand Mountain on Thursday with the quad so I will not be here this weekend but if there is something I can do to help before the clean up let me know.

yotasmob 03-23-2008, 11:36 AM Hey, welcome to CA :)
From Sacramento take 80 east to Auburn. Get off at the Grass Valley/Nevada City exit onto 49. Follow 49 until you get to Grass Valley. Take the 5th exit you pass which will be Brunswick Road. Hang a right on Brunswick and get gas/food if you need it. Follow Brunswick until you see a large organic farm on the left called Loma Rica Organic farm. On the left you will see Idaho Maryland road. Take a left on that. Go all the way up Idaho Maryland until you reach a stop sign. Stay straight. About another 2-3 miles from that the road will turn from pavement to gravel. Take a right on Red Dog rd (paved). Follow Red Dog until the pavement ends and the road forks. Take the left fork all the way to the creekbed.
From there explore as you like just don't forget how to get back to Red Dog. There are many ways in and out of Greenhorn but that is the easiest I find for people who have never been there.
Cobra5.0Jeep 03-23-2008, 05:16 PM i won't be there in april 6th i have to take my parents to the airport.

We will get what we can from the BLM side, the rest we'll leave unless we get permission. I've sent an e-mail....no response yet.
Too bad too. Cleaning up your own property can get expensive...

Cobra5.0Jeep 04-04-2008, 08:15 PM So the people i asked to come are either sick or going hunting so i am coming alone i guess.
I think one of the springs on my Jeep is broken cause its leaning like a mofo.:mad3:

Cobra5.0Jeep 04-05-2008, 08:31 AM I just got up and i am going to get ready and go, can't stay all day though
Cobra5.0Jeep 04-05-2008, 02:44 PM It was nice meeting everyone.
We got a lot of work done and i had fun.
Engine mount is busted, i think i even broke the secondary bolt on it too, the spring has had it as well its almost all the way inside the wheel well now oh and i don't think my 4wheel drive is working either cause i couldn't drive up that little bank :mad3:
I am gonna go outside right now and check the 4wheel drive and see how bad the mount is, i hate fixing that damn thing. Need to bust out the welder and weld the mounts together so they can't move too much.
Cobra5.0Jeep 04-05-2008, 02:52 PM HEY! Its not as bad as i thought, the bolt head is the only thing that broke off the engine mount so i don't have to drill that damn thing out i could get it out with a hands probably or take the mount off and take it out with a visegrip if i need too. The 4wheeldrive works i just wasn't letting the stick for my frontwheels to go all the way forward i had to let the jeep roll a couple of feet before i engaged in. i hate that it looked ok when i took the shifter boot off, oh well.
The spring i will live with for now.:shaking:

JDunn 04-08-2008, 08:33 AM Good picture Nate.
A huge Thank you to all that participated in this weekend’s clean up!
Over 20 volunteers arrived Saturday morning to the Greenhorn OHV area to continue a clean-up effort that has been ongoing since September of 2007.
Nor Cal TTORA members came out to the Greenhorn OHV area March 3, 2008 and removed 10 bags of trash, a TV, vehicle hood, a 5-gallon bucket of paint, a computer and a radiator.
The Friends of Greenhorn April clean up removed 5 truck beds of trash, a sofa, and various scrap metal. Recyclable containers were on hand to collect plastic bottles, cans etc. Again, Auburn Placer Disposal provided free passes for the disposal of trash removed from the area to show their support of Friends of Greenhorn’s volunteer clean ups, and off highway recreation.
This clean up’s projects included:
A large downed tree was permanently removed from the roadway on Red Dog Rd.
Trails to marked private property were blocked with downed trees on theYou Bet side of Red Dog Rd.
4 hill climbs were blocked from Red Dog Bluff up to Red Dog Rd., preventing riders from suddenly “appearing” in front of vehicular traffic on the county maintained road.
A large hole was filled and graded at the entrance to the Red Dog Bluff, where trucks with trailers oftentimes have difficulty entering the area.
We will continue with clean up days for the foreseeable future, and in working with Bureau of Land Management, Tahoe National Forest and local Private Property Owners, begin to establish a trail system.
The next Greenhorn OHV area Clean Up is scheduled for the weekend of June 28th and 29th.
Special thanks go to Brian Wheeler, Jason Dunn, Rick White and Rick Krause for their leadership on this weekends project.
And a VERY special thanks to all who volunteered part of their weekend to make a difference in Off Highway Recreation:
