I'm guessing thats why he is buying one to put into his 70 3/4 ton GMC as he stated in the above post.

And Dodge 3/4 tons did. Was standard with the 440.

Chevy fronts....can be had cheap...compared to the more desirable Ford D60's.
Gm D60...around $200- $250 here locally....Fords, in the right yard, can go for the same.....but those in the know...obviously you'll pay going rate.

But you all knew that already....

The axle I looked at ,had external locking hubs. no good for wheeling.

The hub is outside the tire = tree and rock catcher. naples ny

Sort of.....they are both exposed to the "elements" to some degree....and can be more or less exposed depending on wheel backspace.

The manual external hubs are plagued by the frequent loosening of the (commonly 5) bolts that hold the manual external hub on to the wheel hub. Once they loosen they typically break....often. Internal hubs eliminate that from happening.....

It is funny, about every two months somebody comes on here and says they can get dana 60 fronts for some ungodly cheap price. I will extend the same offer to you as I do every one of the other guys, if you can find them that cheap, purchase all you can get. If you can get them for $250 bucks, I will buy as many as you can get your hands on for double that. Don't get many responses back though. Anybody else smell bullshit?

I am a newb and i smell bullshit. If i could get and axle for 250, I would quit my current job, and axle hunt all day and then flip them on ebay for a large profit.

and from the rust belt where most old iron is rotted and most wheeling is mud so the d60 front isnt in as much demand.

No BS, they are not in demand here. Go to just about any local yard and that is what it is, the two fronts I got were (admittedly) DRW GM D60's....the only added cost would be hubs......new set of SRW hubs/bearings/rotors are reasonable considering the fact that you'd replace bearings and rotors anyway. They were $250...same as most all other front axles. Ford D60's, I have seen one in the yards....I have not been looking though....and never inquired on the price (I do wonder if they'd be more....doubtful as the demand just isn't here).
Why do people from across the country think that a price diff. is BS. I see ads on the west coast for GM D60's asking $1000 plus.....and I am like holy shit! If given the time and means I would get a load of these suckers and drive out that way (if I had guaranteed buyers lined up). Sure, they can be had cheap (relative) here but as always, with shipping it would no longer be a deal.

sometimes you just get lucky and pull off a deal. i got my front 60 for 250. it was the only one in the yard and nobody had noticed it before me. i pulled it and they told me 250. i smiled and paid them. then left :D. you can find good prices you just have to be patient. i had been looking for over a year.
