I just got a 79' Scout II and I'm wondering what springs i should use to lift it. I'm thinking 52" springs in the front and 56" springs with double shackle in the rear. I think that would work nice with 35" tires, but i would like to hear what others have done to their scouts. Also I might be dumb for asking but I have searched ever where on this Scout for a hood latch and i cannot find one and my friend has one and his doesn't have one but this hood will not open and I can feel a latch at the top center of the hood by the hood vent.

Scout lift springs work pretty good. But sounds like your going to be in SOA territory. SEARCH and learn on SOA's. (Spring Over)

Or 4" springs and a 2 or 3" body lift will fit 35's.

Hood pop is a knob in the center of the dash. That's your freebie. Search and learn.... and remembr, this is Pirate and your a newbie.

The hood latch is in the dash. The hood tilts forward on a Scout II.

are stock Scout II axles going to hold up for a while or are they garbadge?

Since yours is a 79 the front and rear axles are dana 44, you should be fine with 35s and a light foot.

You must not be too big into Jeeps then. I've been offered $250 for my front ends by Jeep guys. I've heard of them going for more to other Jeep people.

You have the D44 with disc brakes, standard from 76 and up.

oh idk i have always thrown full width chevy axles under my jeeps. Thanks for the help about the axles. If anyone else has any sugestions on were i can get parts for a Scout II I have been using D and C Extreme and Stopih.com. i am also thinking of doing TBI because i have to rebuild the engine and i thought it would be worth putting the TBI on while im doing that.

binder bulletin for the TBI, Bill has done a great job putting everything you could ever want to know over there, plus there more general info too. Scout's don't have as much off the shelf aftermarket parts like a Jeep, so fab skills are a must. Decide on what you want and then build from there. Read some of the FAQ threads!!!

edit.. gustav129 what's the STFU for, Binderbasher got that name for reason.

Being in Rocklin you're just down the street from us. Stop by if you haven't already to see what products we have. also, we are a Affordable Fuel Injection dealer and can sell you a complete tbi kit.

Dude, you were just here last week. Surely you noticed the shelves of aftermarket IH parts?

He posted that he was shopping on your site. http://shopih.com/
Yes Jeff at IHOnlyNorth does stock a lot of aftermarket parts like wiring harness, 700R4 B&M transmissions with adapters to the IH motor, AFI Fuel Injection setup's, Soft-tops, Motor Mounts, and a tons and tons of NOS items.
Plus a few thousand pounds of custom fab'in bracketry too. :flipoff2:

Since this guy has built a Jeep or two he has come to noticed there are not as many sites that sell Scout stuff. So he been looking at yours and Snoopys site. This is going to sound a bit sucky uppy but the biggest item Jeff has, is his many years of knowledge about IH's in general.

Yeah, I can't seem to get past the 11th grade:flipoff2:.

Actually I went to Del Oro 15 years ago. Graduated in 92'. Say hi to Pchelkin for me and pay attention to him as he's the only person thru highschool that actually taught me something useful in life.
