: toyota mini power steering
coltrain79 07-11-2002, 10:37 AM Anyone have pictures from installing toyota mini IFS power steering in their sami? I am think of doing this and have a line on a box w/ pitman, high pressure hose and resovour for $175.
Doesn't come with a pump, but I have a spare one from a '79 toyota 4x4. Will this pump work with the IFS box?
Any pictures or advise on this swap would be apreciated...
Thanks!
350 Samurai 07-11-2002, 02:11 PM I used a steering box off of an '86 two wheel drive Toyota. The motor in the Sammy is a 1999 Chevy Tracker 2.0 and it had power steering on it already, so I just used that pump and went to the Toyota box. Its run like that for 2 years with no problems.
The two wheel drive doesn't have the j-hook drag link and I am guessing that the IFS doesn't either. You definately don't want to use that setup.
350 Samurai 07-11-2002, 02:14 PM Plus the 2 wheel drive Yota box mounts on the outside of the frame, which give you a lot more room in the engine bay. Be sure when you mount the box to the frame to brace the frame on the inside where the bolts go through.
coltrain79 07-11-2002, 02:51 PM IFS box mounts to the outside of the frame rail also. No J-hook (I have that piss poor steering on my '79 yota) just a regular pitman. I think the IFS box would be stronger, and besides I can get the hole setup for $175.
350 Samurai 07-11-2002, 03:09 PM I would go for it. Mine works great. It only binds up if you get in a real tight spot, but then all you have to do is rock it back and forth a little.
nuttzack 07-11-2002, 03:26 PM 175$$$$$$$ Shit, I will sell you the whole set up for $100, no joke. I have been waiting two days for someone to call me back about buying it and I don't think he's gonna call. It's yours if ya want it.
coltrain79 07-11-2002, 04:23 PM What all do you have? If its everything, I am very interested!
coltrain79 07-11-2002, 04:30 PM Nuttzack, I sent you an email. I am very interested! I could have the money in the mail tomorrow.:D

schuss 07-13-2002, 01:00 PM what's involved with the setup, besides the box and pump? I know I need to put power steering in when I change out the axles and put my lift in, so this sounds like a good solution.
Lziffle73 07-13-2002, 03:53 PM I was looking around the board today and I read alot about the toyota ifs stearing box possibility but I never found out how anyone did it. I have one sitting in the garage in front of the zuk right now and I can't figure out how I could mount it on the outside of the frame rail without interfering with the sping hanger and the body mount. I could extend the frame and move the hanger and the body mount location but that is alot of work just to get this gear box on. Anyone done this successfully without spending more than I could on a hydraulic setup?
By the way, if anyone wants to see pics from my trip to paragon last week.

nuttzack 07-13-2002, 11:33 PM try a search under Fatkid's name, he's done it and so have many others, with a little work
fatkid 07-14-2002, 04:43 PM I did a search under IFS P/S set up pics , in the Suzuki forum.
Lziffle73 07-15-2002, 08:04 AM yep, I already found it. I used fatkid and ifs, really narrowed it down, I think it was second from the top. Anyway's, nice work, you still like it?
Wes.
fatkid 07-15-2002, 09:53 PM I think that the Toy IFS set works really good, I can't see using anything less. Hydro would be nice.
nuttzack 07-15-2002, 11:17 PM hydro is NICE:flipoff2:
