: WE-Rock rules?
mtbrjon 03-17-2008, 08:36 AM How much of the WE-Rock rules will Ftoys need to comply with? In the past our trans have not been covered and firewalls could be around the engine but didn't have to go all the way across. How about this year? If we need trans tunnels there a lot of guys that need to get to work.
desertoy 03-17-2008, 09:39 AM As long as the fire wall complies with their rules you are ok. Either a complete fire wall made out of metal or a center fire wall that wraps around the motor and goes up to at least the motor mounts.
Skii4x$ 03-17-2008, 10:11 AM I have another question. I am building mine to wrap around the engine. If I do this can I do expanded metal floor boards? The rules dont really mention floor boards at all. Also do I have to have a passanger seat in my vehicle during competition? How strict are they on window nets? What can I use to get by with a window net?
1st rule. there is no rules :flipoff2:

i saw rich post up saying that the firewall rule had changed, not sure if it applies to you guys or not.

That's what prompted my question.
What about trans tunnels?
Skii4x$ 03-17-2008, 02:24 PM This is going to be my first competition. Is there any way to know ahead of time if i will pass tech or any items that need to be added to my vehicle?
I am sorry for this semi hyjack but it is about the title of the thread.
desertoy 03-17-2008, 03:58 PM I just talked to Big Rich. He said that the firewall has to be from left side of chassis to right side, completely seperating driver from engine compartment, OR, The motor can be wrapped with min .040 alum up to the motor mounts, completely seperating driver compartment from engine compartment. If you are building one now, I would wrap the motor past the motor mounts, inline with the front of the motor. This way there is no doubt that you are compliant.
Transmission Tunnel:
If you have a manual transmission it doesn't need to be covered. If you have an auto trans, you need to cover it.

After building it according to the written rules, is there anything that you think might be a problem?

Here are my concerns:

Also do I need to have a kill switch? And in the rules I thought it stated that the firewall could be lexan as well. I have my engine compartment wrapped in allum except the firewall portion of it which is lexan. Will this be ok?

Phooeeyyy. Just what I needed more stuff to do. Oh well would somebody call my wife and tell her I won't be home from the shop until next month !:D:D
Jeep07 03-17-2008, 08:52 PM why do you need to cover an auto trans? because of fluid or something?
Would these be legal still?
ftoy507 03-18-2008, 08:23 AM Do I understand correctly?
We could bolt sheet metal in the expanded metal firewall area to get by in a pinch.

As long as you're covered on 4 sides and all the way up past your engine mounts you're ok. If you don't have sides you'd be better to make temporary sides instead of covering the footwell as the sides won't interfere with forward vision thru the floor area. Does that make sense?
mtbrjon 03-18-2008, 09:17 AM why do you need to cover an auto trans? because of fluid or something?
My trans temp occasionally gets above 200deg. and i'm thinking they don't want that spewing on you if the tranny comes apart. Manual trans fluid doesn't generally get very hot.
desertoy 03-18-2008, 09:21 AM YES, you can run expanded metal floor boards.
YES, you need a passengers seat.
Put the word out on the window nets, I'm sure someone will loan you one.
The auto trans needs to be covered because of the concern of hot trans fluid.
Pook, you are in good shape.
LEXAN is legal. PLEXIGLASS is not.
You absolutely need to have a master kill switch with a lanyard on it and a shut off valve on the fuel line.
The first WE Rock event will be a strict tech inspection. If they find a problem, they will most likely let you compete as long as you get it fixed by the next comp (as long as it is not a safety concern).

Yes. Perfect Sense. Probably almost as easy to put sides on.
My to do list
Firewall to werock specs
kill switch with lanyard
window net
firesuit
Skii4x$ 03-18-2008, 09:58 AM DesertToy,
Thanks for the response :)
Just one more question, its the last I can think of for now, Do I need skins on my vehicle? I have a roof and engine/firewall compartment but that is it. Do I need side skins? I have the side bracing.
you do so you can run the required stickers. No stickers no prize $
Skii4x$ 03-18-2008, 10:18 AM I wasnt really planning on placing :) I dont think I will be able to, this is my first comp and it will be the only one for me this year. I really dont think I will do well at all.
desertoy 03-18-2008, 10:27 AM If you can't run the stickers of our supporters, you will have to be registered "Exibition". Not that big of a deal. I just means that if you go out and school the rest of us, your score won't count.
Side panels are not that hard to make. C'mon, you can do it!

What stickers do you want on the car?
Is there a sticker package available?
Does this apply to East Coast?
Where do we get master kill with lanyar? Mine only has a plastic key.
benttoy 03-18-2008, 01:37 PM Just drill a hole in the key and run a wire to 1 side or the other. pull the wire kill the power.
ftoy507 03-18-2008, 02:54 PM Just drill a hole in the key and run a wire to 1 side or the other. pull the wire kill the power.
Already did that.
So, Im good on that one.
What about stickers?

Thats what I had last year at Goldendale. Its actually suppose to run up one of the middle window bars if I remember what I was told correctly.
toyotanuts 03-19-2008, 06:55 AM what kill switch are most of you all running? Jet key style or is their something better?
mtbrjon 03-19-2008, 07:14 AM Already did that.

Yes. I'll get it all together for you.
desertoy 03-19-2008, 08:50 AM I jsut got a PM from Lil Rich. He said that the sides of the "dog house" that wraps the motor has to go to the front of the motor. We'll get it straightened out at tech inspection at Perris. If you are building one, you should propbably make it go past the motor mounts to the front of the motor though.
ftoy507 03-19-2008, 04:29 PM Yes. I'll get it all together for you.
Do you need to mail or just pick up at first comp.
mtbrjon 03-19-2008, 06:44 PM Do you need to mail or just pick up at first comp.
Pick up at first comp would be easier.

I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trans tunnel? How much coverage is needed? I assume all the way up to the firewall then back to beginning of the tcase would be sufficient?

I would agree. You can get the exact story on what they are expecting during tech inspection at the first event.
toyotanuts 05-01-2008, 11:36 AM Is their anything we need as far as gloves and shoes. I didn't see anything in the rule book. Also is their a sticker package?

No rule on gloves and shoes. They would like for you to wear leather shoes not mesh tennis shoes. Very few drivers wear gloves as it just makes all the hand work that much more difficult. Don't forget some heavy gloves for the spotter though. Lil was fairly strict on the 3" clearence between the drivers helmet and any bars. Measure sitting fully upright and strapped in. You will be allowed to compete in your first comp as long as you're safe and fairly close to the specs but you'll have to correct any violations before your second event. Make sure you have 2 fire extinguishers on board. DOT helmet for driver and spotter and neck brace for driver. 4 point harness.
I'll bring the necessary decals to the event.

Lil said this would be left up to the BOD. I'll bring this up on the BOD forum to be voted on for next season.
