i've built several of these with kits from ebay . the vortecs use the same rotating assembly as the 87-95 TBI motors. I've got one going together right now for my crawler. make sure your kit has a one piece seal crank. Or call me and I'll build one for you. I'm in Muldrow just across the river from you. Jim

speed-o-motive has some good kits, make sure you have it balanced, because there new cranks are chinese units.

Do they make any kits for the 4.3? I'd love to get one of those. Sorry for the hi jack. Jim

Which kit are you buying and how much do they go for?

I think the last one was about 750 .It came already balanced also. Speed Pro pistons, Eagle crank and rods, Mahle rings and clevite bearings. The rotating assembly I'm using in my personal crawler motor is 6" rod and with lightweight pistons and tapered pins.I've built several long rod 383's and they are the perfect balance between torque and horsepower. And they rev super quick also.I'm running Dart vortec style heads with a LT1 stock hyd. roller cam. Will have 1.6 ratio roller rockers and a Edelbrock RPM airgap intake. This combo runs killer with TBI injection. In my fullsize 4.10 geared 1 ton'd Chevy with 42" Tsl's and a 465/208 it would spin the rears on pavement in 2nd no problem. Jim

hmm lets see...

summit with hypereutectic pistons... inexpensive 5140 rods, cast crank...$1045.00

vs....

Competition products with 4340 rods, forged pistons, forged crank....$1600
here (http://www.competitionproducts.com/prodinfo.asp?number=LMS395F)
oh, and dont forget you can get another 12 cubic inches, and call it a 396...

no replacement for displacement, eh?
