: Building stuff (Hey Aussies!)

Well I'm finally getting around to putting some stuff on the 90 I've been putting off. Custom driveshafts and some suspension mods are top of the list. The main problem I've got is... freight. NZ is a long way away from most of the aftermarket suppliers and shipping iron half way round the world aint cheap.

So, here the plan so far...
- Build some custom double cardon driveshafts locally. I've got a driveshaft shop that is keen to have a go at building some. We're using Disco II shafts as inspiration but building them much more heavy duty. Does anyone have any details on what phasing works on a lifted 90 without vibration? (Go Merv!) There are some lovely ones on the www.equipe4x4.com site (check it out) that we're aiming to emulate.

- Now I need some trailing arms and shock mounts Do any of you Aussies have some contact details for the folks at Trailcraft.net.au? They were making some trailing arms and shock mounts that looked OK - but I don't know if they still are making them and they are the only Aussie supplier I can find. Unfortunately their site is under contruction and I can't find a phone number for them. The alternative looks like some Rovertym stuff - which is nice but the exchange rate and freight... ouch.

- I plan to run the OME764s and extended bump stops I've already got but add Rancho 9000s using new shock mounts. I'll retain the springs in the rear (cones aren't road legal here and I've got some EE retainers already) and I've also got some extended brake lines. I figure it won't be the ultimate in suspension but it should be OK. The 764s seem a bit stiff for the rear of the 90 (S/w with rollcage and bars but not much internal load) but I figure I can always swap them out for some softer rear springs later on.

- Lastly I'd like to do the caster angle - either by paying hideous freight costs to get some bent arms from Rovertym (or maybe even those funky Italians at Equipe) or just getting John Davis to remachine the swivels. Remachining the swivels looks like the cheapest option and seems to avoid more pinion angle dramas, am I really missing anything by not doing the radius arms?

Before I go and do all this, what have I forgotten? (no it's not a trick question

:flipoff2: :flipoff2: )

I wouldn't worry about castor if your keeping it under 4" of lift. You'll hardly notice after about 10 mins of driving. Really not worth the headache to "correct".

Trailcraft is defunct.

But the guy running it is now with Snake Racing. Or was, anyway. Have a look at the LandRover stuff on www.snakeracing.com.au
Most of the Trailcraft stuff seems to be there.

i run with equippe4x4 trailling arms and double CV front shaft, shout if you want any dimensions off of either of them.
i'll have the front prop off this weekend anyway... doing the  front oil seal:mad: again!!! won't take a minute to snap some pics off.

You could try Both John Davis and Greame Cooper Automotive in NSW they both do a fair amount of Extreme Suspension mods and sell custom shocker mounts.

Hi Jamie

Wouldn't mind some measurements off the front driveshaft - the fully compressed and extended length end to end and also can you confirm if all the UJs are in the same plane or is one end rotated (say 45 degrees?)

the length of the trailing arms would be good too.

thanks! :flipoff2:

Onto it! Thanks. Maybe I'll get one of those funky air clutches for the 8274 as well - looks like a nice piece of kit.
