1986 Toyota 4Runner Turbo EFI. Yes it needs work, it’s an ‘86. I purchased it thinking I would have time to turn it into a camping/fieldwork car, then I decided to continue graduate school, and I have no time or money. It needs to stop taking up room in my garage. I’d love to keep it but I don’t have time, so make me an offer. Any reasonable offer will be considered. This truck has the turbo version of the bombproof Toyota 4cyl. (22rte). They get almost as much power as the V6, with less weight. They can be modified to get much more.
The Good:
-It looks like motor has been rebuilt.
-Compression is good on all cylinders. Spec is 150psi. They all read 150psi.
-I put new intake gaskets and fuel rail seals on it.
-I replaced most of the vacuum lines.
-I replaced all of the hoses around the intake manifold.
-I put a new fuel filter on it when I had the manifold off.
-I put new radiator hoses on it.
-I purchased a new battery for it.
-The body is in pretty good shape given the year. There is only one minor spot of rust on the rear driver’s side wheel well.
-This truck was never turned into a rock crawler, the bones are good and not modified. Its got the IFS so, it's not the best year for that.
-The previous owner says the turbo has good vanes and isn’t cracked, but I haven’t verified this.
-I have a clear bonded title. (The old owner never finished the paperwork, so I had to have the title bonded)
The Bad:
-An old owner removed the doors at one point and just cut the electrical connections, so you will have to splice the wires to get the electric windows to work again.
-The rear window motor doesn’t work. It’s there but the motor needs to be fixed.
-The exhaust system needs to be redone. It is rusted out and the stock one was undersized, anyways. Add a flex-pipe after the turbo and have a new 3” system put in. You’ll get more power and save from having to replace the turbo.
-The rest of the water hoses need to be replaced. I was running it after I put the new manifold gaskets, etc. on and one blew. It was running decently but needs tuning. Don’t run it until you get the hoses fixed.
-Because the title is bonded, it has no tags.
-The brakes need to be bled.
-You’ll need to tow it home.
Again I wish I had the time to fix this truck, because they were great, and it pains me to sell it, but I can't do it. $1500 obo. (The lowest price I can find for anything similar is $2500 for a non-turbo) I can e-mail you a couple of pics on request.
