Mild 350 with holley Projection and TH350.
153 tooth flexplate 86 block
dual battery kit with new batterys
big bulky starter with painless hot shot kit

When I crank the jeep when cold or even driving around town it cranks fine. When I get in the woods and everything gets hot it acts like the battery is dead while cranking and is incapable of being jumped off. after 20 mins or so it will start just fine. The distributer can be adjusted for timing no difference

What gives

sounds like a bad starter.

are you running headers that run close to the starter. Might be cooking the starter.

doesnt sound like a bad starter.

it does sound like a couple electrical issues.

a solenoid that is affected by temperature could cause that. how close is the header or exhaust?

a small wire to the starter could cause it, if the wire shows a lot of resistance or a long lead is used.

check connections at soleniods, battery, and starter.

run a ought guage battery cable... also known as welding lead.

on your hot shot kit where is the relay/solinoid located? you may have heat sink in the electrcal as grumpy has pointed to.

take the solenoid apart, and swap the terminals 1/2 turn, and bolt it back together. this will ensure a good connection.

check for binding on the return spring.

if he swapped starters and the problem is still there then it seems like it would be before the starter, check wireing for the hot shot kit and all the cable ends.

Sounds to me like you need a heat shield over the starter.

I tried a insulating blanket but i will take that off and try just a shield. The headers are headman engine swap shorties and are pretty close to the s?tarter. Could i run a remote solenoid of some sort like I've seen on big blocks

when you are having this problem, try doing voltage drops on both the power and ground sides. If you have a speedo with that is cable driven, do you happen to notice the speedo jumping around when this problem is taking place?

a heat shield wont fix it.

get a good solenoid.

if you think a 9 dollar solenoid is good, then youre thinking too cheap.
