: C&R Question....
LiLBucket 03-19-2008, 10:58 AM The quick end of it is that the local transfer fees are ridiculous :mad3:
I want to take advantage of the $49.00 M44s at centerfire and wish I had my C&R, but the 4-8 weeks wait and hassle doesn't sound appealing right now.
Is there anyway to find local C&R holders? Would this even be a legal action i.e.- have firearm shipped to said holder to be then "gifted" to me? (I owe him a few bucks for mowing my grass:flipoff2:)

i really don't think that would be legal. would you get nailed for it, i doubt it, but don't think its legal. of course, i say this now that i've waited 7 weeks to get my c&r license, so I'm pretty close to getting it.
also, think about what you're saying. when you feel the need to put the "" around gifted, kinda answers your question.

I said it with the " "s implying that it wouldn't be wrapped in pretty HelloKitty wrapping paper, that's all :flipoff2:

CRFRIDER 03-19-2008, 11:41 AM well if he buys one himself and takes the better of the two...

Exactly what I'm thinking.
4in100 03-19-2008, 11:52 AM Why couldn't he just buy the gun (with his money or yours) and then he sell/give it to you as a FTF transfer?
How is that any different than me buy a firearm from joe schmo on the street (which is legal)?

technically he (c&r holder) would be buying the gun with the intent to sell, which isn't what the ffl 03 is for.
only thing i'm not sure of is if he isn't profiting from it/doing it as a business, would it count?
again, i really doubt anyone would get into trouble though.
just read this here:

The FFL 03 C&R, or Curios and Relics is, simply put, using the words of my wife, a neutered FFL 01 license. The C&R allows you to purchase eligible firearms across state lines, transfer eligible weapons between licensed people, and order eligible weapons through the mail (UPS or FedEx). It is NOT a business license; it is purely for your own collecting activities. You have to be careful about that. Yes, you can sell a C&R acquired eligible firearm, but you cannot do it for your “livelihood”. You may sell or “dispose” of a C&R weapon to anyone not prohibited in your state, or to a licensee in another state.
based on that, i guess it would be ok, but it still seems a bit vague
CRFRIDER 03-19-2008, 12:07 PM Thats why when he recieves two and picks one he is improving his collection. That, by my understanding, is the only allowable disposal of C&R Firearms.
LiLBucket 03-19-2008, 12:25 PM I'm seein the same as what's mentioned above after a bit of research.
So, does anyone near me have a C&R:flipoff2:
EDIT: and want to buy 2 M44s for their collection and keep the best of the two and dispose of the other?
cj7jeep81 03-19-2008, 12:49 PM i still think that it isn't kosher to buy it with the intent to sell it to someone else (even if they aren't making money) as its still basically a straw purchase, so i'd imagine you would have to know someone to get them to do it. doubt they'd openly post up that they'd be willing to do that.

Troof
Locally, ffl transfers are $25-$50. EXCEPT one shop that's only $15, BUT they won't except anything for transfer that they keep in stock.
usmcdoc14 03-19-2008, 01:20 PM hey, I don't own a M44
oh and fag, if you do find someone in VA who will get one for you they can just mail it right to you as its a long gun and its in state transfer.

89hawk 03-20-2008, 08:48 AM Get the C&R. Once you get a Mosin you will want another, then another. Just give in now and will be easier in the end. Don't forget, Century Arms also has 5 for $ deals.

Ya, I'm thinking I might get the C&R soon. An old co-worker has his C&R so that might work out. Except he's in Bristol VA.
I have a Mosin, addicting indeed!
