: Hiem UCA VS bushing UCA
Mustard23 03-19-2008, 04:33 PM Ok so on another forum I spend my time on, there is a big debate because one of the venders stopped stocking UCA with bushing and started stock UCA with hiem joints, None of these trucks are going to be raced, most of them will rarely see dirt, it’s just a stock replacement for the UCA so when you lift it the UCA doesn’t hit the coil bucket, and give you an inch or so more wheel travel. What are the pros and cons of both?
Beat95YJ 03-19-2008, 06:29 PM May I ask what type of vehicle?
GoodTimes 03-19-2008, 06:29 PM One thing...
You can adjust your camber, and caster with the heims, and not have to use an eccentric bolt.

05+ nissan Frontier..
Beat95YJ 03-19-2008, 11:20 PM Unless the original arm had oe rubber bushings, heims are an improvement. Urethane is a crappy a-arm bushing. It takes a compression set (hard to align) has high friction, squeaks, etc.
That vendor did the right thing for his customers.
(Unless the bushings were delrin/aluminum parts, then I could be swayed in either direction)

I think they were using Energy's bushings, I understand that hiems make it easer to adjust. but I have heard that they brake easer and that you get more vibration on them, any truth to that? The bushing ones have zerk fittings, the people I have seent hat have had problems with them, just didn't grease them.

A heim is stronger than a bushing unless it is inappropriately sized. I would tend to avoid a urethane a-arm bushing.
I went from urethane to del-alums in a vehicle and ride quality improved as did handling. Isolation is not much different (vehicle has all solid bushings)
Mustard23 03-20-2008, 10:43 AM thanks for the info... On a lot boards I think people just pull info out of there ass, so I figured if I came here I could get explained. The Frontier is an underrated truck, same frame as the Titian, awesome engine, the titan control arm bolt up to give you 12 inch of travel, so the 2wd guys can pull used titan arms out of junk yard and get a descent mid travel set up for less then $500, the titan front end bolts up, so you can run the titan front diff and arms for the 4wd guys, just there is no after market support.
jzaiden 03-20-2008, 01:22 PM Heims are great for the true hard core off-road guy. They have there place. Urethane also has its place. UCA's for the average guy are better with urethane because of the costs. The heims when they wear out will cost around $40 each for FK x 4 units Total $160.00. Urethane bushings are $20 for all of them. The next thing to keep in mind is some alignment shops won't touch trucks with heims. Some alignment shops don't even know what a heim is... lol
We sell UCA's for just about every truck out there. I have set them up with and without heims. our standard UCA comes with A special bushing we spec-ed out a harder material and Energy suspension makes them for us. These have reduced the noise and stay stiffer but not to stiff. Under braking we have reduced flex significantly over stock. The last thing about heims in this application is the noise and clunking they will make. I can deal with it but most people don't want to.
Take it for what it is worth...
