My DD is a 95 Chevy 1/2 Ton Extended Cab. The truck is flawless except the for the fact that the frame is bent a little where the gap is between the cab and the bed.

What would be a good method to straighten the frame and then strengthen the area where it bent?

Chop it and tube out the rear.....link the 14FF you'll be adding and link the D60 front you'll be adding shortly after. A little kink in the frame is nothing....it is just the beginning.

LOL. I was talking about my DD. It is a 2WD.

I was thinking of the following:

1. Place a beam under the the middle of the truck and jack it up so that frame is straight. Then attach stiffening plates on both sides.

2. Have it straightened on a machine, and then strenghten the bend prone area.

A lot of you may think "what is the use", but I have been driving this truck since Highschool. It is my first vehicle so it holds a sentimental value. The shrinking space between the top of the bed and the cab is an eyesore.

We have had all had that first lay.....it is OK forget about it...they'll be others. Same thing applies here.......so continue mods.

Being a partially boxed frame, it may have to see a body shop with a frame rack. There is no easy do-it-yourself way that I know of

are you sure the frame is bent? it could be the cab mounts settling. The cab mounts on my 88 are verrry settled...

I measured my cab-mounts, and they all looked to measure the same, however, I couldn't see too well when I did it as I was having to look at the tape measure at arms length. A small amount of settling would make a difference that would be visible. Since the truck is 13 years old, with 326K (on original drive train - had to brag) I will just replace the cab mounts, and hope that does the trick.

I really don't know how the chassis could have bent, as the truck has never even been overloaded.

That body style is common for that problem. The way I fixed mine was use 2 jacks on each side of the frame right between cab and bed split. Jack it up till it's a little past where it should be and plate and box the frame. Done it at least 5 time on these trucks

The back of the cab and the front of the bed have a large one piece mount. If the frame was bent wouldn't that mount crack some where? A bend in the frame should be obvious, if so, go with option number 2 and have your local frame guy do the job. If the frame is OK the your rear cab mounts are dead.

At the s in the frame is where they always bend. A frame guy will chain the frame then bend it back to normal form, but it will bend back after a short while.
