: Treading lightly thoughts

Please keep in mind that this post is not meant to bash anyone or point fingers. While looking through some of the EJS pictures I see some of the front burnouts that are pretty common on some of the big climbs. I understand the theory behind WHY they do it. I also know it has been done for years. It is the "norm" for the 4x4 community. Is that really treading lightly though? When is that ok? When is it not OK? How will those pictues be interpreted by non-4x4 people? I know Moab is in danger of closing trails and greanies are looking for excuses.

Here is an example of one (just the first one I found):

I just want some dialog on the issue. Remember, I am not pointing fingers or judging anyone.

Thoughts? Flames?

I think it's one of those things just like crawling on trees (even if it's on private land) that shouldn't be photographed or distributed.

Hopefully, if it gets less distributed, it gets less common....people don't see the pics that suggest, "hey, if you don't make that big climb, warm up your front tires first"...and the practice will eventually fade out.

Get sticky tires, or if you have harder tires, sipe them.

Yea, it's a tuff one -- and most organizations discourage burnouts and excessive tire spin on any public lands. In fact, the go low and slow is more the norm out west. And many of us in rock country (Rubicon) carry spill kits and absorbant material to soak up oil and keep the rocks from getting any blacker (as it is).

Photos don't help.
