this may not be the best place to post this but this is where i read the most so here goes. yes i have searched but would just like some straight advice.
its decision time again buy another set of chromo shafts for the 10 bolt front or build a 60 to go with my rear 14 bolt? well heres the deal...i have found a dana 60 front srw for 500$ decent deal right? although the ring and pinion gears have been robbed it is otherwise a complete front end. it is from a 78 dodge powerwagon that was full time 4x4 and had no external manual hubs.
my question is what can i do to have manual external hubs on this axle, is there a kit available or can i swap to a few gm parts? i would like to be able to run a spool and disconect from the hubs when not on the trails. or is my only option a selectable locker? every says just put manual hubs on it but cant tell me where to find a kit or exactly which parts i would have to convert to gm. thanks in advance for any information.

this ain't the axle for you , you will have to replace practically everything but the housing and inner axle shafts and maybe sterring ,just keep looking for an axle with lockouts , I see axles for sale in the south just as much as on the coast , for about the same prices , about $1200- 1500 . You'll be money and time and headaches ahead .

sounds like a 44??? i know what your thinking of the 44's with a solid external spindle nut and no lockouts. this is a 60 with bolts on th hub simillar to a full float rear. i have now been informed that mile marker makes a hub kit that may work part num. 1103401 (selectro hub) anyone know for sure???http://www.milemarker.com/hubs.html
150-200$ (hubs) 200$(r&p) rebuild kp's bearings and seals 300$ spacers to get the wider gm wms back 200$. so go for it or hold out for a gm 60 or spend another season bashing on the old gm corp.8.5.

ah, yeah, the external dodge 60. i know now. theres a guy in my club running one with no problems. he swaps out for drive flanges when he wheels though. external locking hubs arent the strongest.

depends on how important $250 is to you. i got my chevy 60 for $750. sounds like you'll spend more on this dodge than you would a gm though.
