Went to Uwharrie on tues in 90 suburban, rode most of the trails first, then started up daniel in 2wd. Got to steep section, shifted to 4wL, hit the gas and all 4 u-bolts in rear axle broke or sheared, pos lift blocks fell out, u-joint broke, and we stopped. After a day of getting spares and water, (well over 90 degrees while repairing) we reattached the axle with ratchet straps and then u-bolts, removed drive shaft and sealed transfer case, then drove off the mountain to the nearest gas station to enjoy my uncle's 100 mile AAA towing.

my suggestion, perfect vehicle candidate for sawzall, cut off the back, top whatever, shorten it by about oh say 20 inches 4 link the rear and it should be lighter for your next run. or trad it in for a blazer if you are a fullsize fan

A good pretrip inspection should have been done first. It sounds like there was some loose stuff underneath before you even got started.

I might have kept it in 2 for too long, but the ubolts that came with my blocks were cheap peices of shit (not to mention the blocks). The threads on the bolts ripped off smooth and took the axle right off.

Could extreeme axle wrap have caused this to happen?

Just a thought......

similar thing happened to me way back when I put my first lift on. You always have to remember to go thru and retighten bolts because they will stretch initially.

I think this is the perfect time to get rid of those :rainbow: lift blocks and lift your shit the right way.
