: I need a Pressure Switch for my On-Board Air...
BrettM 07-11-2002, 08:32 PM I am starting my A/C to OBA project and can not find an appropriate Pressure Switch for a reasonable price. Grainger will only sell to businesses and the only other place I have found them are Tractor Supply Co. for like $70! So where on the 'net or by catalog can I find a pressure switch adjustable around 80-150 PSI??
Baddawg775 07-11-2002, 08:41 PM Try going to Sears,
find out if you can get a compressors parts list
and order the parts you need.
Ultim8kaos 07-11-2002, 08:41 PM Try Northern Tool or Central Supply. Both have switches that will do exactly what you want for about $25. :D
Go to Rubicon Express. they have a small one that works killer and is only $20. Mine is on at 85 and off at 115 Pretty good for ARB's
BrettM 07-11-2002, 09:35 PM Thanks for the fast replies! I'll check into those.
Does anyone know of a Big Rig type wrecking yard or anywhere else I can get cheap air tanks in the Sacramento area?
Other places...Lowes, Ace hardware, Home Depot....
Keith 07-11-2002, 10:05 PM The "Air Tool Store" on Auburn Blvd, south of Madison has ebertang you need.
pontiota 07-11-2002, 10:08 PM You can buy through Grainger at there local store thats were I picked up mine. If I remember right there's one of hwy 80 and Antalope or you can contact Kirby at www.onboardair.com he also sells parts including air tanks he's probably not as cheap as the junk yard but he's better than Sun or those other brands.
YotaCrawler 07-11-2002, 10:36 PM The Air Tool on madison and collage oak(past greenback) has em for 22 and theyre adjustible.

BigBadBob 07-11-2002, 10:38 PM Find your local clippard.com distributor. That's where I got all of my ARB pneumatic switches and gadgets. They make all kinds of stuff for air/fluid flow.
Nobody 07-11-2002, 11:05 PM I just bought an ARB switch direct from ARB in seattle. It's great because it's really small. High pressure cut off is only 95psi I think...and turns on at 80 or 85. I forget. Always been plenty of air for me. I think I paid about $30.
Your you can use a standard 120v air compressor switch. Take it off an old compressor, or new at most hardware stores. They are bulky, but allow you to see the on/off pressure.
Glenn 07-11-2002, 11:33 PM Call Gary Wheeler at: http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/viair.htm
He has two or three different ones and he's a heck of a nice guy to deal with... Tell him 'Glenn' referred ya... :D I just recieved a package from him yesterday and one of the items was a pressure switch. Beauty, eh...?
As for the Big-rig boneyard, there is one out near Plymouth. I don't have the exact location or name of it but I have been out there and they have piles of air tanks. Or, just buy one from Gary. He has a nice selection...

Erik D_lux 07-12-2002, 12:56 AM just got mine from onboardair.com for $25 with the unloader $20 without
Benny 07-12-2002, 05:05 AM I got mine off of my uncles compressor. Free :flipoff2:
oldmanscj7 07-12-2002, 06:30 AM Got mine from the True Value in Grass Valley, $20 I think.
ErikB 07-12-2002, 03:57 PM Subway Truck in Sac has big rig air tanks.
SunPerformance is the switches that Rubicon Express and other places (Foothill?) carry:
http://www.sunperformance.com/air_accessories.htm#Pressure_Switch
This placde carries a nice small one too for a little higher pressure.

B&C True Value between Albertons and McDonalds? I went in there the other day and all they had were whole compressors, hose and 1/4 NPT fittings, the guy there didn't even know what I was talking about.

ErikB 07-13-2002, 09:29 AM Hmm... that solenoid looks amazingly similar to an ARB solenoid! :D
For on-board air, get a nice small switch like these:
http://www.sunperformance.com/air_accessories.htm#Pressure_Switch
http://www.ricksontruck.com/
http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/viair.htm
The ones onboardair.com com, the air tool store, B&C, etc. carry are all the bigger ones (a metal or plastic box) for shop compressors.
I've got the Sun Performance one now, but I'm going to buy the Rickson Truck one for a little higher turn-on pressure for running air tools. :)
oldmanscj7 07-15-2002, 09:22 AM Yes, B & C True Value in next to Albertson’s. If I remember right it was on the top shelf in one of the plumbing isles. Most of the people who work there don’t have a clue, and then act like you’re the idiot because they don’t know what you’re talking about. B&C True Value between Albertons and McDonalds? I went in there the other day and all they had were whole compressors, hose and 1/4 NPT fittings, the guy there didn't even know what I was talking about.
raider89 07-15-2002, 10:07 AM Another good source is MSC Industrial Supply (http://www.mscdirect.com)
They have a catalog at least as big as Grainger's, will sell to the public, but are a bit higher.
Insayn 07-15-2002, 12:02 PM Air tanks and switches at:
www.truckn.com
BrettM 07-15-2002, 12:43 PM Thanks guys, I got one at The AIr Tool Store off Madison in Sac.

FYI, I just got the switch from Rickson Truck- its not a 100/120 switch as they have advertised. Its a 80/115. And it was $19.08 too.
Kind of annoying since I already have the Sun Performance switch which is the same thing. I wanted one that turned on sooner. :p
They said they'd take it back, but...
was wondering if its good idea to have like 150 or 170 psi shutoff instead of standard 115 or something.. that way would be easier pop the beads if needed.. just wondering.. i plan to do that setup eventually
have the york already but need to get the rest of the stuff and fab the bracket..
ErikB 07-31-2002, 07:23 AM As long as everything in your air system is capable of handling that kind of pressure, you can do it.
It will work your compressor a bit harder, but I'm not sure how much of an issue that is.
I know they are capable of 200-300psi, but I wouldn't want to work them that hard all the time...
I'm going to order the 110/150 switch from http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/viair.htm so that the turn-on pressure is above 90 for air tools, etc. The 80/115 works OK, but I'd like the compressor to kick in a lot sooner. :)

Hey erikb sorry bout the bad news. Thanks for posting it. I also have the one from sun performance and was going to do the very same thing. When I got the one from Sun they told me the switches were made for them and no one else sold them.

Ther is a place in West Sac. BJ's Wrecking, 916-372-3518. They have a giant pile of used tanks they let me dig through. Found the perfect one and was out the door for $20.
climbermike 08-01-2002, 06:47 AM Got one free last night from some Jackass that put a compressor out at the curb for town collection. I saw the mule drag it out and he said it didn't work. I pulled everything off it that looked decent, pissed behind one of his bushes and left :flipoff2: (he didn't see my truck, so he probably thought I was a neighbor :flipoff2:
hee hee, I said piss.
:flipoff2:
JamisonWorkshop 08-01-2002, 07:29 AM For the higher ratings, 95/125 or higher for that matter. Thats why I went with the Square D pressure switch, People are selling. It is fully adjustable. As far as tanks the one at Wal Mart for $20 bucks cant be beat. 7 gal.
My system is holding up great. Actually got to rotate the tires tonight. Got to love the Impact gun.
