Need more detail. You talking removal of the long shaft from a slip yoke tranny to install a short shaft for a married 4x4(bronco D-20)? If so, you're looking at the disassembly of the entire tranny as the long slip-yoke output shafts are retained by a C-clip deep inside the cluthc drum assembly. The Fixed yoke C-4 in an early Econoline isn't retained this way. since it has a bearing to keep it from falling out.

The Stock C-4 in an EB may also be held in by a C-clip, not sure though in this case.
