: Powertrax installed

Hey there,

The otherday I installed my powertrax no slip in the back of my 44. Since then the locker seams to make a click darn near everytime it turns a corner. I thought these lockers were suposed to be quiet? Did I perhaps install something wrong? I followed the instructions pretty well. It does lock, works well, but kinda noisy...has anyone else on here installed one before, or have any tricks to quiet the thing down a little? Any ideas would be very helpful! And yes, I did a search!:D No one else mentioned anything related.

JU...What did you just say to me son?

We'll just pretend I didn't hear you say that. :flipoff2:

I am thinkin the clunk may go away if I just put in some slightly thicker gear oil in there. I'm 99% sure I installed it right. Its kinda nice to finnaly be locked in the back though even if its only temp till the OXs comes in.

Stop whining. They click, they pop, they're noisy. Get over it, or buy my shitty track-lock off of me for $40. :flipoff2:

Does "mfg4rox" stand for "Manufactured for Rocks"

That's reeeeaaaaaally cool

Let me ask you a question. Why is it that you gave yourself that name? Is it because your rig is "mfg4rox". I find that hard to believe when you're just throwing a lunch-box locker in the rear and bitching about it clicking.

Has anyone else noticed how some of the weakest rigs and whiniest posts belong to the guys who pick logins like "hardcore crawler", "mfg4rox", "rock crawler", "rock rider", "extreme Jeep", "extreme crawler"

I don't know how the So-Slips are put together but if it's anything like a Lok-Rite, they're gonna make a ratcheting sound when you go around corners. And occassionally pop and bang. If you use it like you should, it won't matter soon cause you won't be able to hear it over all the other rattles.

The no-slip is a lock-rite, with a few extra parts to tame them a little... no way worth the extra $100 they charge for it, IMO. For a little more than the no-slp, you can have a Detroit.
Heavier gear oil might help a little, but you'll never get rid of it.

Has anyone else noticed that this guy likes to bitch much more than help :flipoff2: . If you had nothing to contribute to this post, why did you feel the need to post? Oh, and sorry us guys with smaller rigs can't be as creative with the name process as you....bigdude. Wow

I actually agree with you welby. I'll never get rid of it, I was thinkin about the thicker oil as well. As for the money issue, I agree again, but luckily I didn't pay for it, I'm doing this as a review for off-road.com. :D I always see a bunch of people asking questions about these lockers, yet no one really ever has an answer, so I thought I would review it and one way or the other give people some a referance. I am saving for OXs front and back myself, but wanted to have some sort of locker in the TJ till I get enough $$ to OX my rig.

Believe it or not, these little powertrax units seam pretty tough. They aren't AS noisy as lock rites, but definitly stronger. I've had friends bust those things with 31s, yet this no slip thingee is taking my 33s fine. And I really have been beating this thing down the past couple of days. I am impressed, but I agree, for the $$ why not get a detroit.

I've got a no slip in the rear of my KJ.Noisy lil' bastard. You get used to it.It does provoke questions like "what's wrong with your Jeep?""That sounds terrible"and shit like that. You forget about it when it pulls you out of a lousy choice of lines.Took it out and reinstalled it and it's still noisy.Gonna get replaced with a Detroit when I swap in the front axle.

:flipoff2: As someone once said to me welcome to the world of lunchbox lockers. That lockers are actually really quiet a pop is better than the whack other lockers make when they unload. That locker will be good for you as long as you don't go for big tires. It works most of the times when you need it and is fun as hell to play with out of the box(rubixcube locker). If you didn't want noise you should go selectable its costly but it won't affect the ride until you need it. The No-slip doesn't ratchet around corners and the pop isn't very loud. Next time someone says what's that noise coming from you rig say I don't know and turn up the radio.:goofball:

That's what it seems this site is losing with whiners like "mfg4gravel" :flipoff2: I'm glad he had a comeback and didn't take it like a bitch but it was really weak. If he chose to search first he could see that I add plenty o' tech. Then he could've made an intelligent smack :D that held some ground.

"mfg4gravel"- The login is a nickname I have for my dog, it just also ahppens to fit my physical stature somewhat. I don't consider my rig "big", I just consider it well built :flipoff2: I borrowed this from a recent gen4x4 post. I think it applies to you mfg4gravel. Keep in mind being a "newbie" has nothing to do with post count but everything to do with experience.

Welcome to the POR newbie tour. Now on your top left you can see the classic newbie forum name. These most often include the phrases: rockcrawler or extreme, usually in some sort of combination. It can/will also include any other word or words that would indicate a "hardcore" wheeler. Due to recent studies and scientific break throughs we now belive this is establish their levels of :rainbow: and to let the "other" wheelers know how hardcore they really are.

I've installed a couple of No-Slips for other people, and run one in my front 60 (cuz it's not really a 60, but a 61.. anyway)
They tend to make noise for a couple of days until the heavy assembly grease wears off. Lots quieter then.
I thought the front locker was making some noise at full turn, but then I noticed it was just the TSL's rubbing the springs. :rasta:

What you hear is normal for No-Slips. You may occassionally hear a bang when it unloads while driving in reverse. No-Slips don't ratchet like Lock-Rights or EZ Lockers.

Big Dude,
What do you do for a living? Just curious, you don't remind me of a people type of person. I asume nothing in sales?:flipoff2:

If my name implies some sort of short coming of my 4wheelin extreamness or lack of, then what does the name big dude imply, as far as short comeings, and lack of....?

You do realize thats now 2 pointless posts of yours on this same topic right, are you trying to set a record? There isn't exactly a prize you know!

Ketchup dog, we all love your cute blue cage as you zip around town these days! :flipoff2:

As for the no-slip, its actually a lot better now that I put in some thicker oil. I don't know if I just ignore the noises or if they actually went away, who cares. I was just currious if they were suposed to make noises or if I installed it wrong.

Got to beat the new locker down some more yesterday, I really like it. Its taking the 33 LTBs just fine, much better than I had expected. Next project is a belly up for the TJ, already got the motor mounts in and 1 inch body, just waiting on my skid. Tomarrow I may order my 4.88s, we shall see.
To all of those who helped, have a  , you earned it!

I'm currrently a chemical engineer and I have done production supervision work before. Engineering pays better but I liked supervision just fine (and so did the folks who worked for me :flipoff2:)

I already explained where my login came from numb nuts. In fact, I did it in the exact post where I continued to make fun of you mfg4gravel :flipoff2:

I'm not trying to set the record for pointless posts. That's someone with questions like "I thought these lockers were suposed to be quiet?" (sound familiar) :shaking:

Keep telling yourself your rig is "mfg4rox" and maybe one day you'll actually build it that way

LOL....Here have a  and loosen up while I tell you of a real feild of work called Astro-Biology. LOL At least your into something pretty interesting though. How long have you been at that?
