Nice fish. Looks cold! What were you using for flies?

 Cold as a motherfucker. 20* before windchill.

We used eggs, worms and midges all day. IIRC my big one and the big one my dad is holding were both caught on eggs, the first small one I caught was on a worm, and the one my brother has is on a midge. They were rising all day, best fishing was between 12 and 1:45PM.

EDIT: the fish in the pics are ~18", 22", 25", 25", and 24". I've got pics of the other fish, but they are on my brother's camera.

Those are some mighty fine winter catches, my compliments... :smokin:

The flies are good choices, good "bring home the bacon" types for winter fishin'.

Only got out 1x so far myself, I wear felt sole waders and they tend to cake up with snow after getting out. Interesting as one can feel themselves grow about 1" per footstep as the snow freezes to the soles. One of the more amusing facets of winter fly fishin'... :D

Tight lines,

D.

Notice I'm rocking rubber soled hunting waders. We took snowmobiles in, so it wasn't too bad for my dad and brothers as far as snow build up. I wish I had more time to fish out here, saw a few 28"+ rainbows that I wanted to try to catch, but we ran out of time.

Seein' fish like that sorta makes ya think about moving to CO now doesn't it? ... :D

Jury is still out on my wading boot selection. I do too much walking and the felts wearing pretty rapidly.

I don't regret my RiverTek waders, especially after finding the one ice shelf that was a little weak last spring. Was wearing my boots and a pair of rubber socks and managed to find out the hole I was fishin' was about waist deep when the ice broke through...
There was a muffled screech from below the belt as the waist area hit the water and I found myself wearing football shaped earrings cuz the boys had quickly relocated themselves to higher warmer ground...

My parents have a place in CO, that's where I was staying last week. It was :smokin: nice. I think I am taking a job out in CO this summer as a rafting guide/part time fly fishing guide. :grinpimp: Should be a lot of fun, as the spot we were fishing is open only to people who know people.

fish, goats, cows...he's not picky.

I so thought you were your dad too in a couple of those. You need to catch a few dozen more and bring 'em back for a good ol' souther outdoorsmans dinner. I've got a pack or two of deer tenderloin/backstraps rarein for the skillet!...mmmm I just made myself hungry again.:flipoff2:

Yup. Fishing where we are is awesome, it's right below a dam so the water is full of oxygen and food. Map included below, red dots mark the places I know for sure have fish over 24"s. Who can tell me exactly where this is? :flipoff2:

 It's a rough life, but someone has to catch the big fish. :flipoff2:

Catch and release where we were, there is some more water nearby that you can take fish from. These would have been awesome to eat though.

Only a couple places like that in CO. South Platte around Deckers is one and a couple I know of that I'm NOT giving away the location of even though I live in MT. Its an unwritten outdoors man law that one does not divulge honey holes to anybody 'cept relatives, and grudgingly to them... :flipoff2: :D

OK, I'll play nice and offer up the N. St. Vrain between Allens Park and Button Rock Resevoir or alternatively Middle St. Vrain between the last creek crossing on the old now closed road near Red Deer Lake and the Coney Creek crossing which one can actually get to via 4wd. They closed the upper stretch of the Middle St. road to Red Deer lake during the RARE III USFS evals of Roosevelt NF and the creation of Indian peaks wilderness in the late 70s.

The catch is,
1. Given that I've fished pretty much everywhere in CO thats public and some private are these 2 places the ones Im thinkin of in my earlier post.
2. You gotta figure out starting from where and how far in to go... :D :D

This fishing is in the northern western centralish almost eastern in a southernly direction part of CO. :flipoff2:

Parent's place is in Steamboat, this is some private water a bit away from there.
