: anyone wheel Wreckers?? got pics?
SamuraiChris 07-11-2002, 11:59 PM I got a line on an older GM 4x4 wrecker, thinking of making a rig out of it. ANyone else out there do this or seen one. How'd it work? Pros, cons??
It comes with 350, SM465, NP205, D-60, 14-Bolt, seems like a solid foundation to build on.
theres a dude out at hollister that wheeled a wrecker till he bent his frame pullin somone out
454/sm465/203/205/60/14b i think, oh and 44 boggers thing looked pretty cool and hed pull you out if he was there but if you called him=$$$$
SamuraiChris 07-12-2002, 09:27 PM How did the thing wheel? Was it manueverable or way too big? What'd he do to compensate for the narrow dually axle in the rear? Looks like the axle is far rear for a good departure angle but also alot of open belly underneath. Hopefully someone has some pics.
the thing was a beast. it was single rear wheel. his turning radius SUCKED!! 44s and (???)offset wheels probly had something to do with it ;)
phineas 07-13-2002, 10:11 AM Do offroad tow truck guys usually do anything to their frames? Around here theres a couple of guys that do it, but it seems like that much force in one area would just ruin a frame. It'd be a pretty cool side job to have, and they usually make decent money.
camo kid 07-13-2002, 11:48 AM In Colorado Springs there is a tow company that has a Ford that wheels. It is bobbed, Has sliders, think it has like 36 or 38 swampers (havent seen it in a while) winches all around, blah blah blah.....
cord318 07-13-2002, 12:19 PM Randy's High country towing. I think he's on 37" MTR's now. Saw it a few weeks ago. well set up. I'm digging but can't find a pic.

The guy you talking about is Jesse. His rig actually has a 502ci big block. Last i heard he was building another Tow Rig that is suppose to be about 2000lbs lighter.
cord318 07-13-2002, 05:14 PM Jesse is right. He's notorious for doing 2wd break stands in the pit so no ine else can get through. Last I saw him he was running a 454.

rocktoy4me 07-13-2002, 10:35 PM There is a guy in Murphy NC, right out side of Tellico that has a big wrecker that he uses to get people out of Tellico with. Cant remember the name of the company at the moment....but you pass his shop if you come in from the Murphy side.
Said he gets $300 before it even leaves the lot....and it goes up from there depending on how stuck/broke you are.
Flatty 07-14-2002, 11:12 AM Had a buddy at Dependable tow in Truckee CA that used to take his wrecker up fordyce and the con pulling people out. Pretty pimp old rig. I thikn it had a 60, 14, 460, 435, 205, 36" swampers,...
