Was wondering if any one has swapped in this eng. I am about to tackle the harness. I have a complete stock engine harness and ecm to start with. I was wondering what do I have to keep for this engine to run.

I just did a swap into my '01 TJ using an '05 5.3L motor. If you're going to mod the GM harness yourself, I found using the Helm's manuals from the donor vehicle very helpful. A bit pricey, but had all of the wiring diagrams I needed. I just made my own excel spreadsheet of the wiring needed and wiring that I could just cap off. I followed GM's approach of using a small fuse block for the engine sensors (TAC, MAF, coils, injectors, O2's, etc) and connected that to an ECM controlled powertrain relay. There were only a few wires which needed to be grafted into the Jeep's wiring (Ignition, RUN-START source, etc).

I do my own tuning/programming, but you can find places to eliminate the not needed codes/VATS/etc for relatively cheap. Speartech does it, as others out there. The 07's probably use the E67 ECM which I don't have a bench top harness for, otherwise I'd do it for you.

I've done enough gen3/4 work over the years that I can assist you if you come across something that you're unsure of.

Good luck with the project. What tranny are you using?

Gen 3 question- I have located an 06 5.3 with 5,000 miles. It is a flexfuel engine. Is this ok to work with? Any idea what is different about a flex fuel engine? Planning on a CJ swap.

An '06 would be a Gen4. With flexfuel, the ECM determines which fuel type the engine is running - gas or e85 (or something in between). It uses the O2's and additional lookup tables within the ECM to do this.

The other is called Active Fuel Management (previously GM called this Displacement on Demand). This is the 'V8 to V4' mode feature on a lot of the newer 5.3L motors. Here they use four special solenoids to shutdown dedicated lifters for four of the cyls through oil starvation for lack of better words. It's argueable whether AFM really relates to squat in stock truck/SUV drive mileage. In the offroad conversion world, it's just a mild annoyance that can simply be turned off via an ECM update.

I had AFM active in my own '05 5.3L motor conversion until I swapped out the "alien" DoD lifters for all normal LS7 types. I could have left them alone and simply deactivated the mode via software change, but the cam I'm using is a much higher lift grind and is pushing the limits of the DoD lifter design. I also swapped the stock heads for some stage II TSP CNC'd 5.3L types, because we can't ever have enough power .

There should be no problems with using that motor in your swap. Let me know if you need any help.
