Help.....
My neighbor has an old Jeep swamp buggy...not sure of year.
On the side of the dizzy it has a vacuum advance unit that has two round shaped diaphrams with one vacuum port, on the inside it hooks to a white plastic piece that slides (like an advance)..that has two black wires that go to a curved shape black pickup and a two wire pigtail off the other end of the pickup.....what years did they use this style system and what do the call these units??? TIA.

Sounds like a Prestolite system. (aka Prestocrap). Is the vacuum advance plastic? If so it's prestolite. Used from '75-77.

it'll also have a gold box on the passenger fender.

is he having a problem w/ the ignition? its probably the gold box. i'd junk the whole thing for HEI or the later motorcraft setup

yep, replaced gold box...still wouldn't start....pulled vac adv and found bad diaphram...today I got him new Presto-crap and he is gonna try tonight. I told him to switch to HEI..He's a little hesitant.....As long as its HIS $$$$$$ he's wastin, not mine, He can find out for himself:eek:

BTW....he's already spent $115.00 on presto-shit:smokin:

i remember that presolite stuff being really expensive. I left the gold box on the fender of my CJ and that was 3 ignition systems and an engine ago that I last ran it. Leaving it there for someone on the trail who hasn't figured out that its a big turd :flipoff2:
