: rockcrawling ATV
coachgeo 07-12-2002, 07:14 AM has anyone done a 4 wheel version of a trials bike or rockcrawler?
I need something light and small to take to places to Moab etc. (I live thousand or so miles away) yet I want to hang with my wheeling buddies. Largest thing I could maybe tow would be a Samari, but thats a different forum.

Yeah I know all that. I just dont know if its just sold for money making reasons (lift kits etc) or if it actually increases performance.
Like.. will an ATV go thru the Little Sluice or some simular rock garden?

www.homestead.com/coloradoquadrunners/indexnorthwestchapter.htmlThere is plenty of Extreme ATV rockcrawling year round in Kremmling, Colorado
just check out www.cqr.org We also have a trip planned for the spring of 06 to Montrose, Co. We plan on doing Die trying, Cactus Ridge, etc. all on our ATVs. We have openings for 20 riders. You must have a 4x4 ATV with lockers and a winch, and you better know how to use them.
Click on our web site to see what we are about.

desertwheeler 11-22-2005, 09:37 PM I take our polaris sportsmans to moab about once a year. you can do just about anything on them, and if not go over them find a way around them. If you got enough balls they will take you anywere!
ATVs look like a fun time on the rocks. If you're really looking for a challenge check out trial bikes. Pro trial riders are simply amazing, probably put a rock crawler to shame on most obstacles. Although, I'm not sure I'd want to ride one on an all day run with trail rigs.

mudslinger99 11-28-2005, 02:37 AM There is a guy on here that runs nothing but rocks on his ATV.. He has a website but I don't remember what it is but if you search around here he has a mess of pics and links to his site.. They have a group of them that goes all the time..
VerticalTRX 11-28-2005, 07:55 AM I'm pretty big into ATV rock crawling. When setup properly, and with a good rider, they will really surprise you with what they will climb.
Here are a few pics of my little rig:

Are you over 50? I have several in my group that are over 60, They still do extreme crawling.:bounce2:
thump93yj 12-07-2005, 05:48 AM Hey Vertical, how'bout some details on that lil'rig? Specifically the rock lights and the beadlocks.... Haven't attempted a tire/wheel swap myself, but, hear it's a royal PIA because the standard ATV rim bead is an uber-beotch to pop off. Does the beadlock make it any easier to switch tires? I've had a couple of tires changed at a whopping $30-40 a pop via the local dealers
BTW, we crawl ours all the time... I find it's a ball to rig size ratio personally... the smaller my rig... so go my boys. :flipoff2: But, that being said, before getting married, I was able to run several of the hardcore big-rig trails we run in OK back in the day.

I guess that's me. Since the original post is from 2002....I think he's probably got something or not by now. :)
That Trials bike photo is amazing....
ibrocun 12-25-2005, 10:43 PM A buddy of mine rode his 4x4 ATV (I have no idea what kind it is) down Cadillac and met us in the springs. I had never riden a quad before, but I jumped on it and rode down the trail about a half-mile. It beat the crap out of me. My shoulders were sore from wrestling with the thing over each rock. I suppose I was doing it wrong. What are the tricks?

Ride enough to get stronger.
