: Push button SAS question.

I was in the begging stages of my SAS swap for my 94 Suburban when it was totaled in a fire this weekend. I have my front and rear axles, rims and tires, springs, cross over steering and ORU SAS kit already purchased.

Now I'm looking for a new truck. There are a lot of options available in my area but most have the push button 4wd (some auto 4wd and some not). Ideally I'd like to find a manual shift 4wd like I had but I'm not finding anything.

My question is what problems does using a push button controlled transfer case create when doing the SAS? Drive line problems? etc.

I tried doing a few searches but I guess I'm not putting in the right key words, so if this has been over asked can someone please post a link?

I'm not asking about swapping cases.

i think swapping the case is a petty viable option. You get a stout case, manual shift, and easy to find parts and replacement. Probably save you money in the long run after you bust your stocker a couple times. Just MHO

Reguardless the ultimate basic answer was still in his reply. Electronic 4wd in itself is a quirkey pain in the ass. With a manual case, it either works or is doesn't. The geometry might work fine, thats basic driveshaft angles etc. The switch would probably work fine too for a ahwhile as long as you hooked it up right (CPU issues?), like many (i know ford got rid of their's and their auto hubs due to similar issues) it will probably have issues at some point. I could be a smart ass and say make sure you put a good bumper on it that way when your 4wd stops workin you can plow it into the woods and out of the way of the people behind you......but whatever. :flipoff2:

Thanks for the replies. I think it'd be best for me to avoid the push button style altogether.

Yeah good choice... It sucks balls period. We had a 2001 Suburban and sure enough we got the service 4wd light 2 or 3 times. We had a 2003 1500hd got the service 4wd light once. And now my 2005 1500hd i just got the light again.

We had to replace the switch board.... If its not the switch board then its the motor on the transfercase.

any autopart store sells them. same section as the chrome cobra shift knobs. you can mount it anywhere in cab and at the push of a button you have a solid frontend. push it again and get ifs road comfort. make sure your transfer case is in neutral first!!
