I have a late 80s Dana 60 front kingpin and am looking for spare shafts.

I found this http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/D60%20Front%20Shafts.html

It shows all the outers from 78 until kingpins disapear are the same part, so that is easy.

My question is on the inners.... I don't know what year axle mine is and the chart shows different inners for different year, and different U-joints... so

1-Are the inners from 85 through 97 interchangable?

2-What is the difference with 5-332X and SPL55-4X U-joints? Are they interchangable?

the only reason I ask, is the chart shows a dimension and ujoint change in 88.5 and later.

the 332x is the old style forged 1480 series
the SPL is the replacement SPicer Life version 1480,
the SPL55-5x might be the greaseable version IIRC.
the 332 were non greaseable

come on dude... you ain't no stinkin' newbie... you should be able to figure this out... especially if you've already looked at the 60 bible :flipoff2:

First: the u-joints are the same size, just different styles.

Second: Pull a damn shaft and measure it :flipoff2:

Third: Get the BOM # (bill of material) off the housing and look at the chart linked below :flipoff2:

last but not least... I will make it easy on you because I'm feeling nice and just happened to be sending this info to a friend tonight :flipoff2:

'78-79 ford d60 Inner Shaft length - 18.68" left and 34.56" right.

'85-88 ford d60 Inner shaft length - 15.96" left and 36.68" right

'88.5-91.5 ford d60 Inner shaft length - 16.17" left and 36.97" right

axle chart from the dana 60 bible (http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/60_front/D60%20Front%20Shafts.html)

I read the chart too, and I know they are different dimensions... my question was has anyone ran a 85-88 axleshaft in a 88.5+ axle?

I think I could take a 88.5+ axleshaft and run it in a 85-88 axle easily enough (might have to shave .2" off the end and run deeper splines down the shaft with a grinder)
