Ok...

I probably don't plan I building a buggy...but I do have some fabs that I want to do (ie hydro assist, moving rear cross member, maybe build a a box around my fuel tank), but I don't see miles of tube in my future...

BUT, I do see myself breaking shit on the trail, especially with my wife driving.(GRRR just got the non-renewal of insurance, she rolled it in the snow)

It would cost a bit more than 135 amp welder, but I am thinking I could do the ready-welder, with two optimas and big marine type isolator/switch setup...

Would this work, or am I wasting my time...

If you just have a few projects to do, then it isn't a bad unit. I used one a while back at my local shop while picking up some equipment. It lays a nice bead and overall I was impressed with the punch it packs for the size. As far as longevity is concerned, I have no clue.

If it were me, I would use a shop welder in the shop (and I do) but if $$$ is tight...do what you have to do.

That being said, I know guys that weld everything on their rigs with batteries and they do fine :D

I have had a ready welder for years and have used it quite a bit but I wouldn't consider it a shop welder at all. If you want the best bang for the $ then buy a stick welder. You will get much better results IMHO

I use my ready welder all time, but it is not even close to a 220 welder

I think the ready welder is the best wheelin welder you can get and you just might be happy enough with it for a quicky fab job. It's quick to change wire, quick to hook up a bottle, and burns very hot.

Ive used it to fix a lot of things 66cjdean welded with his stick welder that broke........hahaha

no just kidding....

Most can't stick weld worth a crap but almost anyone can welded with something that is wire feed. Flux core or not.

see ya,

I WON'T bid on ebay for a hobart/miller 135 or 175 wekder because they are going for what you can buy them new from a dealer (most are dealers anyways)...

But what do you think of this deal

The price seems good, shipping will be BITCH, but a new one goes for over 1k.. correct?

I do WANT a 220, but I gota justify it....

Skip the ready welder unless it's just for trail fixes. Still kind of a pain IMO removing someone elses battery to weld. Unless you have two of course.

A 220 machine is great, but a 135 amp Miller is a killer machine for what it sounds like you're gonna do. I've got a 130XP Miller and love it. Does 1/4" fine. 3/8" is three passes.
Check out www.brwelder.com, he's usually got pretty good deals on stuff.

The 200's not made anymore, but its a kick ass welder. Im not sure what a "good" used price would be. I love mine though. Shipping via someone like fwd air probably wouldnt be as much as you think. New MM250's (the replacement for the 200) are indeed over a grand

what about the ready welder and a high amp alt?

Doesn't produce enough voltage... need at last 24 volts..

You could combine a premier power welder with a ready welder... but then I am at the point of buying a shop welder and building an on board welder anyways...

I would consider using two red tops in the jeep. Run them off an isolator to charge them both, but have a big disconnect switch and wire them in series for welding.

Whats that web address for foward air again?
