: Gauges with manual transmission?

Typical gauges are boost, pyrometer, and trans temp - if you have an automatic.

What suggestions do people have for the third gauge with a manual transmission? Or do the manual trans guys (and gals) just run two gauges?

Just curious...

How about a real OIL temp or Oil pressure or Fuel Pressure?

x2 on the fuel pressure. Thats what I have in my truck wiht a 6spd. Although it does have a trans temp guage, diff temp, real oil pressure and water temp as well. If I had to do only 3, it would be the boost/pyro and then fuel pressure (or oil pressure depending on what truck I had)

If your truck is a '98.5 - '02 Dodge CTD with the vp44 pump, then I would agree with the other guys on the fuel pressure gauge. You can hopefully avoid an injection pump failure if you have a gauge to monitor the lift pump's performance.

If you don't have a CTD, then I'd probably just do the two gauges. If you're dead set on 3 gauges I'd choose either water temp or oil pressure (likely water temp).

Gang, look at his sig lines. He's running a Chevy 6.5TD. Not Dodge, not Ford.

For sure, boost and EGT. No other suggestions from me.

I just run 2 gauges in my 5 speed, boost and EGT. If I had a 24 valve CTD I'd worry about fuel pressure but I just mounted a simple gauge under the hood for that if I need to check it.

Thanks, was just about to post that based on some of the suggestions... http://images.gotapex.com/vbulletin/smilies/bigthumbup.gif

Hadn't thought about fuel pressure - have the oil temp and pressure.

I found on my 92 6.5td that GM gauges suck, they are not very accurate. It's not just diesels most GM gauges have this reputation. I'm running mech oil and temp along w/boost and EGT's. My GM oil pressure gauge is off quite a bit compared to the autometer gauge. I just tee'd off the sender.

I would think water temp as the third. IIRC cooling is a pitfall of that engine.

Yep!! that's probably the 1 to replace. My oils is tee'd, you need to keep the sender or bypass it to make the lift pump work.
My GM temp is disconnected and a mech gauge is in its place.
