Okay, on advice i received from my Father, he said the shift fork pads in my D300 T-case were worn out. He was correct. I replaced them, but the problem didn't go away. I just had a tranny shop tear down my D300 and they said nothing else was wrong.

So, how do i test the rear end for Wheel bearings and/or rear gears for damage?

1980 Jeep CJ-7 Auto. Stock AMC 20 rear axle.

When i drive, under light acceleration, it's fine. However, under moderate acceleration or when starting off from a dead stop, "KA-CHUNK, KA-CHUNK" and the whole thing shakes and GRINDS and slips in&out of gear when trying to go forwards/backwards.

This occurs regardless of T-case position.

I think I'm left with just opening the rear inspection/assembley plate and taking the rear axles apart, but if there are any other tests i can perform before opening this stuff up, I would appreciate your help.

Where? Am I that stupid  Looks to me like he is saying 1st and reverse?

Edit: I do agree to check the alignment though....

I worked the same throught every gear in the T-Case (2wd, 4Hi, 4Lo).

It's an auto tranny, and it occurs regardless of gear(!,2,3,r).

Yes, I'm pulling the rear cover as we speak.

Sounds like a M20 hatched. Nothing new.

You neglected to say what suspension system you are running.
If SOA with stock leafs....maybe extreme axle wrap and u-joint is binding under acceleration?
What is it you are driving and how is it modified??

Sounds like it's time for a set of 1 peice axles or a rear end swap. The hubs are probably spinning on the shaft. That's the biggest reason the 20 has a bad rep.
Try it with the rear driveshaft off & the front engauged.

This is exactly what i did, after i fixed the Tranny guys fuck-up. And something is still wrong. It's NOT the rear end, It's in the Tranny.

It hops into & out of gear (like grinding an automatic) when only the front shaft is engaged.

Stock suspension.

Thanks for you help, now it's narrowed down to the Tranny, and I think i have some warranty recouse.

Later.
