ok heres what i got... the jeep is a 73 cj5. amc 304. rear axle is a 44. i just got 35" goodyear mtr's and the most offset wheels i could get with out going to crazy. i have the capibility to 4 link it. but im building a truck and thats taking up most of my time. i want to do something fairly quickly so here is what i thought. i could move the spring perches back 4" fairly easily and call it done. i will most likley link it eventually so i dont want to put to mutch time into it right now. I was wondering if anyone has ever made a little plate with a new centering pin in it to move the axle back. or would this just put to mutch stress on one side of the spring? another idea that i had is to move the front perch back and make a longer shackle to reach the rear of the spring (about 7 inches) wouldent that give me more travel also? i allready put a fuel cell in the bed area so there wont b any problems with clearence issues. i also am going to tub the inner fenderwells so the tires wont rub. i cut the rear of the body straight back from the top of the wheel opening allready too. i need to do something like right now because im putting the tires on tomorrow. so i have this weekend to build it.

I've done the off center hole in the perches thing, but only for an inch or so. If you're talking much more than that then I wouldn't do it. I'm not sure how far you want to move your axle, or why for that matter. What's your driveshaft like? Do you have enough length to move it back and still use it without tearing the driveshaft apart? Anyway, don't move the front hanger without moving the rear one as well. That longer shackle at a bad angle will cause you all sorts of problems. I used to run an inch and a half offset on mine. That was with 13" long perches that stuck out in front of the axle to act like a traction bar, on a SOA CJ7 though. I'm not sure I'd do that on a sprung under vehicle. Why mess with it for that little gain? Run it like it is until you can do the suspension right. You'll likely cause yourself more driveshaft and spring problems any other way than it's worth, and then you'll be wanting to link it sooner than later anyway. I also wouldn't bother linking a model 20 either, but that's a whole nother topic.

whatever i do i will replace the driveshaft. i have a connection at inland empire driveline. i want to move the axle rearward because the tire is 1" from the front of the fender well. a buddy just told me the same thing..."you can drill a new hole in the perch and get about an extra inch ". i might try that.
