Who sells an alum Radiator for my 73 fj-40 the cheapest. And did an Alum radiator make that much of a difference in your cooling? Also was the Alum radiator a direct replacement or did you go larger. Thanks for the help

i got a manafre aluminum radiator, thinking it would solve my problems, but it didnt...it runs all day at 185-190 on the freeway and driving around, but as soon as it gets slow moving, especialy during wheeling, it jumps up to 220 and above...im swapping to a 4 core copper/brass one

Yea, I've been dealing with this issue for about 2 weeks now. Done quite a bit of researching as well as trial error. Made a decision yesterday and ordered a 4 row copper/brass one from [URL=http://jtoutfitters.com/]. Great service with them in the past. $214-shipping included. Just hope this takes care of this heat issue. I havn't been able to drive over 35 mph without going to 250 degrees.

What are you running engine wise? Are you using a shroud?

i bought a howe alluminum radiator out of summet racing. i think its 19x20in. made a new radiator mount and it barely fits between the headlight bezels. im running a strong big block and at first i just tried running a electric 18 inch pusher fan..(no room between waterpump and radiator) was running 210- 220 all day. last week i reworked the engine compartment and found a way to move the radiator another 2 inches forward and put a mechanical fan on. ive been running 180 all day long by switching the fans. still need to make a shroud though. its not a big radiator. but it fits just right and 3 core. so it seems to be working fine.

I run a 350 chevy crate engine in my FJ40 with a 4 core brass/copper radiator. I have a custome fan shroud with a 16" mechanical steel fan blade. When I take off it sounds like a jet taking off it is so loud. At highway speeds I run around 200 to 210 if I keep it at 60 to 65 MPH. If I go faster then I heat up to 220 to 230. I use to be able to idle and not heat up with my old cruiser with the same setup. But now if I sit there and idle I start to heat up. I run a 180 deg. thermostate and have tried the high flow water pump as well as a brand new stock one. I have just come to the conclusion that Cruisers are tempormental.

i put a high flow (expensive) waterpump on mine. a 160 thermostat. and added waterweter. i went out and measured my radiator to. its 24x20. with a 16 inch mechanical fan. no shroud in 90+ degree weather i was doing 60mph for about a half hour down the highway and never broke 200. but sitting still longer than 10 minutes it heats right up to 210-220. im hoping that a shroud will fix that.

I am running a small block with the stock radiator...I had alot of overheating problems in the past....i copied a fan shroud i saw i think on btb web page...i put in a 18" fan and now it never...ever goes above 190deg...i did notice by trial and error that the size of the fan made a big!!!!!! difference...i tried a 16, then 17 then finally 18" and she runs cool no matter what the outside temp is...my thermostat is 185deg..hope this helps

Hey Jssena,
What engine are you running, what size/style of fan (flex, electric, steel), any shroud, how far is it from the water pump nose (where the pulley is) to the radiator core? Also, if you have a pic of your setup, that would be great.

I had my cruiser radiator recored to a high efficiency 5 row. The nose of my pump is 2 1/2 " from the radiator and I'm running a steel fan with a home made shroud. I have the 327 and an automatic, so I have that extra heat too. In western Washingon it doesn't get too hot, usually 90's is max. I drove to Salmon, Idaho last year and it was over 100 deg. Truck ran 200-210 which I'm comfortable with. With my old rad I would shut down if it got to 230 deg.

I'm doing an EFI conversion now, and have pix being developed. If any show the fan/rad/shroud I run I'll post it

Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I also have gone through all the changes mentioned above and finally, I think I got good enough. Me, I'm running a 4 core from JT Outfitters, an 18" mech. flex fan, homemade shroud, and a 180 thermostat. We've been tipping 100 degrees the past week or so, and before I added the new radiator she would hit 230-250 easy. Now, 210 MAX on the highway. She will hit 220 sometimes upon shutting her down. I can live with these numbers. Oh yea, I trimmed the hell out of my inner fenders. Easy as hell to get to the spark plugs now.
