Not sure what kind of scout it is.

I was hoping that maybe some of you guys would know.

Fiberglass doors and top aftermarket?

It looked like a 4 cyl under the hood.

It looks like an SS II with a funky hard top/door set up. Wash it up and sell it on eBay for 'one million dollars'.

Its a Super Scout!! Pretty rare. I have never seen the fiberglass doors for the SS inserts. It came from the factory (as far as I know) with a soft top and doors

Want to sell me the grille??

Hold onto your gibblets there sparky.... you won't know for sure if it's an original SS until you look at the VIN.

True.....but even a conversion that old is pretty rare, just not worth as much. Doesnt change the fact that I want the grille :D

That appears to be a factory ss hardtop and hard doors. Buddy in Michigan has a couple of them on his Scouts. Way brittle set-up.

Did they have a 4 banger or could it be a diesel?

Mechanos
03-27-2008, 01:12 PM
Scout II's came with I4's, V8's, I6 gas & I6 diesel. If it is an SSII, I don't know if they came with diesels or not. Since it's a '77 pray that it isn't a diesel... that POS can't get out of it's own way.

Looks like I almost missed out on all the fun:eek: I have one of those tops and set of those doors along with another set of aftermarket glass doors made from different molds in the 1990's. The stuff in the pic was made by an aftermarket company in Illinois and sold as a dealer installed option. They are really fragile and the top is very light in weight. Ill bet my top doesn't weight more than 50 pounds. I sent a ton of pics of my various doors and tops to some guy named Hooper, who I now understand is driving around in a pontiac coupe of some sort:flipoff2:, and he posted the pics on the SSII board on the BB. I bought my top and doors from a guy in Michigan for around 300 bucks and had a bunch of guys from the BB wanting to buy them from me, but as usual they wanted them for next to nothing. If someone wants to use my stuff to make molds to kick out a few sets im all ears:D

How do I check VIN? It is G0052GGD40885

Based on the VIN, it is an 1977 SSII.

Fourth digit denotes model (e.g. 5 = SSII, 6= Scout II). Sixth digit denotes year (e.g. F= '76, G= '77, H='78, etc...).

Balance of the VIN 40885 doesn't tell you much, as I recall. Production was not always sequential (40885, 40886, 40887) as I've read.

Hmmmmm....since I was the one that "killed the thread", lets you and I compare our Binder e-dicks for the fun of it huh and see who really is the bigger binder fanatic. Just remember, you wanted to play.

Okay let see, I'll go first and start slow.

All the vehicles I own are Internationals ALL OF THEM.
I daily drive a 1980 Scout II Turbo Diesel Traveler built in the last week of production and occasionally wheel it just to prove a diesel can hang.
Between my Dad and I, we own 9 Internationals ranging from 1947 to my 1980, including a 1967 149 Cub Cadet that regulary see mowing duty.
I worked as the lead printer and digital designer for Binder Books and brought MORE new items to print in my 3 years there, then I can count. I worked my ass off at that job to make things better for all IH enthusiast world wide. Gave my summers working at shows and lived pay check to pay check to work there and build my binder knowledge.
I am also the President of the largest IH Scout and Truck Club in the US with members all over the country and world.
Binderbound and myself built and campaigned a 1965 Scout 80 in both CalRocs and WeRock competition. The truck is 90% IH, including the engine.
For the past 5 years I have helped put on one of the biggest all IH truck and tractor shows on the west coast, which includes volunteering my time for doing design work for them, volunteering my time on the weekend of the show and countless days and weekends before the show.

So, newbie, what you got? Maybe you'll thing twice about spouting off before you go off on the vetrens of this board, who frankly I am not one of. You with your two posts need to sit back, read, search and learn before you come in here with your dick swinging. Now sit back, relax and shut up. NO, they are not factory, they are an aftermarket door that replaces the soft door.

The window does slide both ways. Really thin fiberglass, the top of the door blows out when you drive down the road.
