After all of the great posts I've found I haven't found anything about good donor vehicles for the elusive 700 R 4 Transmission. I plan to completely rebuild it but I want to find a good starter core. Its for my 85 CJ-7 with one of the two following engines and a twin stick terra-low d-300.

I've been trying to find more info about doing a vortec 5.7 as opposed to a TBI 350. Besides the easier repair on the tbi 350 are there any advantages? Just to make it more difficult how about the 4.3 Vortec?

This is going to be a trail/highway jeep. I'm after reliability and smooth ride...and in the near future axle upgrades to start hitting the more rugged trails.

use one from a late 80,s 1/2ton truck. Don't get one from an s10 with the 2.8 motor,wrong bellhousing. Even better and stronger would be a th400, if u dont mind some rpm,s on the road.
