'72 to '80 are Scout II's and yes a '79 would have D44s. Where are you located, I've got a '80 Scout II front D44 I'd like to sell.

1971 was the last year of production for the Scout 800 and the first year of production of the Scout II. A 1979 would be a Scout II. It's easy to tell.

Early Scout-It may have a different grill but the body shape is the same

However, I don't know why you want Scout II axles, most IH guys swap out for full width's, waggy's or do a spring over and swap all the outer parts to GM/Ford combo.

the scout II 44s are perfect for my cj project.

what kind of automatic trans and transfer case would be behind that 345?

A Torqueflight 727 that will only bolt up to an IH engine and a texas pattern Dana 20.

last question.

assuming the 345/727/20 combo is in pretty good shape, is it worth anything? trying to see if i can recoup some or all of the money this guy wants. the body is trash from what he said.

Depending on where you are located, it could be worth something to an IH guy, but that's it. I've never heard of anybody repowering something else with an IH engine. They're heavy and low revving with limited (almost non-existent) aftermarket support. Best place to get a feel for what it's worth, along with any other basic IH related questions is over at www.binderbulletin.org. Good luck.

If your in near Reno Nv I have set of Scout axles I would sell. The 345 would be a small amount, maybe the 727.

Make sure the year is what the owner says it is, happens a lot with Scouts.

Really? Your building a low rider mall crawler CJ? I hope you have done some research before you spend the money. Your gonna be sadly disapointed.

scout II d44s are a very common swap for CJs. not quite waggy width,, not too narrow. i know plenty of folks, many on this very board, who run them in their CJs sporting 35s or 36s with no problems to speak of. don't forget that my CJ doesn't weigh as much as your tank - i mean scout - does.

thanks for the input though :shaking:

ps- you need to study up on spelling and grammar before you try to be a smart ass. the only thing i'm "disapointed" in is our public education system!

Yeah Binderbound STFU...like you know shit about building :D:D

Induf it may be common, and sure 35s are fine..even on Scouts. I ran 36's for 4 years or so on mine. However I think you missed the point.

Your tarded. How's that?

Ultra thin wall tubes, shitty brakes, zero degrees of caster. Yeah, sounds like great axles for a swap. But, since everybody else has done it, its great for you. Use them and tell us how it works out.

Well Pirate shitcanned my post. Love it.

ScoutII D44s have been beaten to death in this forum. Trail rigs with 35's, rear locker, low RPMs, and light weight. Crawler with 35s, lockers, etc. CYA. Better off going with waggy 44s or something.

Even with the trail rig rear alloys will help vendors here can hook you up. Hell I have a set NIB I'd hook you up with. But if you want to really make this rig work they wont hold.

Indulf: Here is my jeep with a scout 44. I cut the knuckles off and rolled them back to get the caster I wanted. Installed some 5.13's and a locker and run it with stock shafts. It has an atlas II and I do front digs on it all day with little to no problems. I have broken one hub when I neutral dropped it in front drive low range with the tires turned to lock. I used the scout axle on purpose to keep it light and only planned on 36's max. This thing kicks ass and I have hard time wanting to change it it works so good.

Yup Jr4x is the prime example of a GOOD use for Scout D44s. Notice the nice paint not just on the body but on the BEADLOCK RIMS. That last picture really shows an incredible ammount of flex before it is in the fender.

P.S. Holy shit I almost missed the chromed window!

I'm not sure but I think its just a jeep body on a different frame. Look how much frame sticks out beyond the grill. You can almost see the body mount for what ever it used to be. I like how the rear driver shock is fully compressed and there is hardly any articulation back there. Jeeps are for girls.
