Can you get a 60 shaft with 31 splines to fit a 9" 31 spline carrier?

I'm more interested in having a bulletproof knuckle, u-joint,steering setup. I have never broken a 31 spline rear 9", so I figure I probably wouldn't break a front one. I am going to run 37's.

Shafts would have to be resplined. Not worth it in my book. Might as well have the 60 knuckles and 35 spline shafts to match

That would require a carrier change. Can you respline it without going below the heat treating? Aren't some of the late model dodge 32 spline(or something)? If I run 35 spline I could probably get away with stock shafts cut down and resplined. Is this correct?

What is the point of having a "bulletproof" Knuckle if ya break axles?:shaking: 9" carriers/sidegears are cheap. For the cost of resplining the axles ya could buy a new spool.:smokin:

I would never run a spool in the front. I like to turn. I don't think I would break a 31 spline shaft, I haven't broke a 27 spline shaft yet. I've broken a ring gear and a ARB but never an axle. When I said I was going to run 37's, I meant I was already running 37's. I have for the past 4 yrs. Thanks for the answers, I guess the answer is yes to having one made, but no to one already existing.

air and ox lockers turn fine when locked and all they are spools when locked. i think with 31 splines you will be fine as long as you stay with the 37's, anything over that and 35 spline is a must. i say just re-locker/spool now and save the cost of the re-spline. if down the road you need to upgrade it means new shafts, now ( present time ) all you need is a 150.00 dollar spool and you can keep the strength in the axle. figure the cost of re-spline add that againts the cost of a spool. i would build up not down, jason.

It's having a spool/being locked in the rear that causes problems turning.

That's funny, You are saying it won't change your turning. I don't buy it. I know having rear locked makes a difference, but the front locked makes more of a difference in my Jeep.

what do you have for a locker in the jeep now, lockrite, ox, air or eletric. if its anything that you flip a switch or pull a cable then you have a spool when its locked.
i know its convent to turn it off to help when steering but if you put a full 35 spline spool on the jeep you really wont feel the diffenrce with the spool or if you have your selectable on, its the same when it on. so adding a full spool up front to get 35 spline is probaly the cheapest way to keep 35 spline inner axles and have it locked.
will the jeep see the road, if yes then 35 spline outer hubs will be fine with 37's and maybe up to 40s, after that i would run slugs. alot of peaple been down this road, always look down the road not at what seems to easyer now. but hey its your money, jason.
