Hello. It seems whenever I search for information on 4x4 it end up here, so I thought I ask her directly.
Now, I'm by no means a super mechanic of any kind, but I do know enough to get a lot done and fixed, but I'd like to really get more into vehicle building and modification. You know, make the vehicle what YOU want it to be.
So, there's an International Scout in the very crowded backyard of a scrap yard that is my friend's dad's house, and he said he'd let me have that old thing for $500. My friend and his dad don't really know what's wrong with it, and aside from being worn from just sitting back there and being neglected, that thing looks really solid, just rusty and all flats. I think it's a Scout II because of it's long and has a cab in the back, but that's what I just gather from photos.
So...I was wondering if I could just get some advice or ideas as what to do with this new venture in my automotive life. Obviously these things can become very nice off road monsters, but is that a difficult task? Is a Scout any more difficult to work on that other old truck types? Is it possible to swap out the engine for a larger one?(it's a straight 4) I'd just like some advice as to where to take this. I'd really like to take the Scout and make it into a tall and loud monster, but I was hoping someone here might be nice enough to tell me how far you can take a Scout II.
Thanks for any help!
