: MRW Wheel Problem

Hey all, I havent been around much lately...too many Rovers to work on. I'm currently working on a 97 Disco. I did a Rovertracks Toy axle conversion and fit the Roccia flairs. I'm now trying to fit the new wheels. I bought MRW Racing steel wheels. They fit over the studs fine, but the tapered seat in the wheels is cut too shallow and the taper of the lug nuts does not even begin to engage the taper on the wheels. It is an obviously bad fit. I spoke with Keith about this before he went on vacation and, per his recommendation, ordered an 82 degree countersink from MSC. My question is how deep to countersink the holes, or alternatively, how much of the surface area of the taper should be engaging the lugs? I have a wolf wheel to look at for reference, however, the center is thicker and I don't want to cut the countersink too deep and end up with the lug nut bottomed out against the hub. I also don't want to cut it too shallow and have an insufficient amount of taper engagement. Is there anyone here with an engineering background that can help me calculate this, or point me somewhere I can find the information?
For those that run these same wheels, did you have this problem and, if so, how did you handle it?
Thanks in advance,
Rob

I had to do this with some MR wheels. Ended up cutting the countersink a little deep (intentional) and milling a little off the tapered end of the lugnut...not much, I think about 3/32" to fit. Made a mock-up out of scrap to figure it out.

I'm no Engineer, but then again, what does driving a train have to do with lugnuts :flipoff2:
