how far forward can i angle my rear shocks forward before they become inaffective? i have very limited space for them. the only place they will fit places them leaning forward at about a 30* angle. i have some rancho 9012's so i can jack the dampening up to help them but... will they give me enough dampening? even if i went with rancho's shorter shocks it would still be pretty damn tight and not much better off. the stupid gas tank is the way and it's permenent unlike the shocks. so the shocks are gonna work around it... anyone? anyone? :grinpimp:

these things would be at almost at the same angle as my driveshaft...

If you angle your shocks 30 degrees from vertical, they provide 86.6% of the dampening that they provide being placed vertical. At 45 degrees, they provide 70.7%, and at 60 degrees, they provide 50% of the dampening that they provide being placed vertical (It's the "Law of Cosines", you remember that one don't you?? :D). The vertical component of the dampening diminishes as you lean them, but their ability to allow the suspension to travel increases at the same rate.
What about about mounting them outside the frame? You could even bore a couple of holes through the gas tank and sleeve it for the shocks :rasta: (be sure it doesn't have any fuel in it when you cut into it though).
It sounds like you are getting serious. Will you be ready in time for the big showdown?

I guess you've moved the rear axle back, that's why the tank is in the way? I moved mine back slightly (1.5"), and had to re-mount the shocks on the front of the axle to clear the tank. I don't know your rig, but you might be able to space the shock mounts forward from the axle a few inches to clear. That would also make your angle a little less if you still have to lean them forward.

emievel, poppy's rig has been tubed from mid-frame back. Here (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59830&highlight=buggy) is a thread showing what he's done. I saw it a few weeks ago and it's looking real good.
