Johnson Motorsports’ Nicole Johnson to Race at Houston’s SPEEDCRAWL April 5th
Las Vegas based Johnson Motorsports announced today that Pro Modified driver Nicole Johnson will be racing at the first ever SPEEDCRAWL located just outside Houston, Texas on April 5, 2008. The event will be held at Spring Creek Offroad, the host site of W.E.ROCK’s 2007 Grand National Championships. This event will combine rock crawling and rock racing with two teams side by side battling the clock for course progression through a series of gates. Three classes will be recognized for the event based on tire size: up to 35”, 36”-40”, and the big Texas-style trucks over 40”.
Nicole will be piloting a borrowed Jeep YJ outfitted with 35” Pro Comp Xtreme Mud Terrain tires. “The stock-modified vehicle will be fun to drive and very similar to the type of wheeling I first learned nearly 15 years ago,” said Nicole. The vehicle was selected for its grass-roots spectator appeal as a car that women could visualize themselves driving. “I’m excited for the chance to help promote the event. Being one of the only female drivers at the race, I’ll have a great opportunity to encourage more ladies to get behind the wheel of an offroad vehicle,” commented Nicole.
Co-driving for the team will be XRRA veteran Mike Foster, Jr. of Team Fat Boy Racing. Nicole’s excitement continued, “I’ll have a great co-driver on Saturday! Mikey is a local to the area and knows the terrain very well.” Mike recently raced along side Militia Motorsports’ Robert Lucero at the XRRA season opener in Moab, Utah.
Mike Moze of Team Fat Boy Racing, who has been the driving force behind Nicole’s involvement with the upcoming race, believes spectators will be thrilled with the event format and seeing a female driver. Nicole will join Moze, Foster and Lucero in Houston on April 4th for a live radio interview to promote the race.
