: Double Main Hoops... really neccisary?
FIXXXXAH 07-13-2002, 11:01 AM I've noticed almost everyone making their cages now-a-days is going with a double main hoop.... what im wondering is is that REALLY neccisary [sp?] ? wouldnt a well braced single main be plenty strong? people've been running single hoops forever and it doesnt seem like they all failed.... trying to keep off any unneeded extra weight above the COG...
And i already know the better safe than sorry, better a little bit extra weight over your COG than a crushed skull, what about highspeed rolls down lionsback blah blah blah
:flipoff2:
Just lookin for some good thoughts. I know i will be partly cloning woody's cage, which is a single hoop and seems plenty strong, and also Nolens and Jason M's [without jason's overkill :flipoff2: ]
so lets here it from some of the single hoopers out there...
Matt:D
texican 07-13-2002, 11:41 AM Why ask, you already know all the arguments, pro and con? I have a single hoop now but my next will be a double, mainly cause it really kicks major ass in the looks department.
:smokin: :D

FIXXXXAH 07-13-2002, 02:32 PM Well, i want to see if anyone has a pic of a cage crushed down to the dash with brains all over it and a story about how their beefy ass cage just could'nt do it because it wasnt a double hoop to mabye scare me into it.
I also want to see if anyone has any comments i haven thought about or new ideas...
I've always loved woody's cage, but i also kinda want a semi-family style cage like the one diesel cruiser just made and nolens... trying to think of a way to get the best of both worlds and still have it look OK....
Matt
wngrog 07-13-2002, 03:16 PM I think you will be just fine with a gussetted single hoop.
If I did not have the family section in mine, i would have done it like Jimmy's using the factory Cruiser look.
Just make it like you want it.
Even with all the loops and hoops that Mace has in his, we both have 100" of tube in our cages since I have that big ass second hoop.
Diesel_Cruiser 07-13-2002, 05:34 PM Only reason i wanted a double hoop is to impress chicks :flipoff2: :flipoff2: .

texican 07-13-2002, 05:53 PM Hey Nolen I think you have a bit more than 100" of tubing.......wait a week and we will have Dusty's done.
Course it's gonna be 2 main hoops behind the driver, and one at the rear.
Butch
wngrog 07-13-2002, 05:55 PM 100'. Bitch :flipoff2:
texican 07-13-2002, 06:16 PM I just love it when you talk dirty to me

FIXXXXAH 07-13-2002, 06:44 PM Hey! i will have none of that in my thread! Cut It OUt you two.:mad3:
:rasta:
Matt
Macgyver 07-13-2002, 06:49 PM my single hoop did just fine during a triple roll.

You're going chrome too, aren't you, for the Bling Bling looks factor??:flipoff2: :D
Jason M 07-14-2002, 12:46 PM When I did mine I almost put a double hoop in it. However I like the style of it the way it is right now.
And I like Nolen's double hoop.
Build it the way you want. A properly braced single hoop should be plenty strong. Besides, I don't care how many hoops you have. Simply tying it into the frame will make the most strength difference..
Hoops and loops???
 :flipoff2:
texican 07-14-2002, 03:36 PM There will be no chrome on my Cruiser, nor phallic symbols either, Hey Mace, maybe we should name your rig "Unicorn"......
Butch
Plowboy 07-14-2002, 03:46 PM the only reason I know for using a double hoop, is to float your roll over in sand. I have seen single bars dig-in sand :( far enough to appear there was no bar at all.
BJ On Roids 07-14-2002, 04:11 PM the reason i went to a double hoop was for sand, cause as plowboy said you dig in a lot more with single bars, and its harder to roll back over
i used to get it AWWN in the dunes a fair bit
oh...and looks, dont forget how sweeet it looks, on a hard surface roll, the single hoop should be plenty strong though

You are a bastard. LOL
Now I will not be able to look at my cruiser and not think that...
:flipoff2:
:p
I bet there are some Bling Bling shops that could do a realy bad airbrushed unicorn on the hood ;)
If you roll in the sand a double will help a bit but if you have a reasonable bikini top (read one that is attached well and made out of a good material, or AL) then you will not sink in.
nuclearlemon 07-14-2002, 06:49 PM i really won't help that much in a rollover (body and frame will get f*&ked up to compensate for the cage)...and many rolls are slow (neither one of mine damaged that cage at all in my 78), so it all depends on your driving and personal preference. i'll be going double hoop in my 68, but only because i got a cherry cage cheap (for one fender) that won't work with my half cab...hoping i can double tube it with the front and back sections being seperate from each other and sneak the half cab on.
