: hood and fender idea, opinions please
roczuk 04-01-2008, 09:56 AM Sammy's are badass machines so I am building another one. This one is a Tintop.
The only thing that I hate more is the squareness up front of the sammy. kinda hard to make it flow with nice lines, etc.
I'm the kinda guy that always wants to be different than others; I'm sure many of you are like that too.
My idea is just to dove tail the hood like Okie's but to create tube flairs that are even with the body (dont stick out) kinda like the jeep fella's do it. it'll be a tube clip style front. no fenders. problem is that I really havent seen this done so I don't want to just cut a perfect hood in order to have a crappy look.
I think it would be unique and would allow me to incorporate alot of style in the front area and still have plenty of room for everything else.
what do you think?

How about an LJ hood and grill like this guy did. The hood is already tapered in the front and the grill is the best looking zuke grill.

roczuk 04-01-2008, 04:56 PM I'm talking about this:
Sammy dovetailed hood

and putting some tube flares on there to follow along the body but flush, not sticking out

exo sami 04-01-2008, 08:17 PM the tires dont rub....
Danazook 04-01-2008, 09:17 PM are you going after the jeep look?
roczuk 04-01-2008, 10:47 PM thanks guys for the help.
Dana- no I'm only trying to copy the fender idea just to incorporate the other lines and things I want to do on the front. I guess i'll try it out and report back. Either i'll like it or just buy a new hood.

desert runner 04-02-2008, 02:03 AM I think this style would look great on a sami with a little tweaking.

JpJon 04-02-2008, 07:44 AM Hay Tristan, I can make you a thin fiberglass hood you can use as a pattern, super easy to cut and shape to want you want. I can also make a extra skin you can use to cut and raise the middle for a little more clearance.
roczuk 04-02-2008, 09:03 AM thanks Jojon. Let's talk alittle further some time on that.
OKIE ZUK 04-02-2008, 08:58 PM Tristan, my original idea was to do as you wanted to do. It would look somewhat street legal, with tube fenders.

Looks like it's been tweaked a little already

Looks cool, can you post some more pics?
roczuk 05-12-2008, 11:41 AM well here is the mockup photo.
I need opinions! is it me or does it just look too funny? it could just be that the front end isn't completed yet (finished hood, painted, plated flares, bumper....)
Am I making an ugly sammy just to be semi-street legal?

mikeb273 05-12-2008, 01:02 PM The tube/flare looks too wide. I think if you narrow it up some it will be sweet. mikeb
But once it has bigger tires it may be OK. Im thinking the small tires are a optcial illusion?
HUMZUKI 05-12-2008, 01:11 PM Might try narrowing the grill even more to make it match the hood with a little more. Looks pretty fuckin cool though

ya but chop off the outside of the grill. its just too fat on the outer edges.
Edit: I photochopped what i was thinking about narrowing the outsides of the grill only. (first photo)
I filled in your fenders and chopped up the bottom of the grill and also narrowed the plastic around the headlights too just to see wht it would look like.
I do like your idea. Hope this helps you at all.
roczuk 05-13-2008, 09:28 AM hey toykilla, that's awesome thanks.
I like it more now. but here is the plan.
I'll remove the tube clip and make a new one. the new one will match the narrowed hood like Okie's
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i216/jetboatmarty/100_1453.jpg
and i'll have bolton (hidden bolts) wings like you see. at that point i'll post up pics with the narrowed grill and see if it's a go. if not i'll go ahead and change the grill.
I'm really doing this for the street legal issues. I may or may not need to bolt them on but I know every time I do the rubicon there are always issues driving to loon lake.
This way I'll be able to take full advantage of the visibility of the narrowed front.
thanks again to all.

verceingetorix 05-13-2008, 09:30 AM I think it looks funny now as it has stock tires on it and its not done. Once you get it done and put the bigger tires on it I think it will look very nice.
EGzuki 05-13-2008, 09:48 AM he ran his tubing even with old fender line of samurai...may not help with the street legal aspect of CA but i kinda like the look.
