: Yamaha 350 Warrior Vs. Honda 400EX

I currently ride a Warrior 350 that gets used on trails and dunes a bit. It's jetted, piped, and filtered, but otherwise stock. I've been wanting to ride with a bit more power, and 400EX's are pretty cheap and plentiful, but was wondering if it's that much of a power/chassis upgrade, or am I better off sticking with the Warrior? The nice things I like about the Warrior, is it's like a VW Bug, it may be underpowered, but I can beat the ever loving snot out of it, and rarely have any problems.

I know, get a YFZ or a Raptor will be the most common response, but that probably won't be for another year or so.

Any opinions would be appreciated.

A Honda is about as reliable as it gets. Comparing a Warrior to a 400EX is like comparing a John Deere riding mower to a ...well....a 400EX.

The suspension alone would be enough for me to switch...Im guessing they weigh less but Im not sure.

Im die hard Honda so I might be biased a little..hehe

Nope cause I would fire you if I found out you rode a Warrior. I bet you even have a little rack on the back don't you :flipoff2:.

To be honest they are pretty fun little quads but they just feel really heavy. What kind of riding do you do?

Ditch the Warrior and get a 400EX. Once you ride a 400EX, you'll laugh at the warrior.

A lot of dunes, and some trail. Moses Lake Lake WA with lots of whoops, very technical dunes. Oregon coast dunes, I borrow a 450 for St. Anthony's. I bought the Warrior because it was a smokin' deal, and I wasn't sure how I'd like riding. Now I'm hooked. But it's still cheaper than hauling the Samurai around, and I have more closer trail options.

I used to own a Raptor 350 (warrior with different plastics), and it sucked a lot. There is absolutely no comparison between the 400EX and a warrior. The 400ex has everything on it, from the suspension to the ergonomics to the power.

Some good info. I can pick up a 400EX for anywhere between $2200-3000 around here, and I already have an offer for $2000 for my Warrior. I might come out ok. Even though I am deep down a Yamaha guy from my old YZ250 days.

I know a guy getting read of two late 90s warrior for $2000 I was thinking about buying them for the family. He said he was selling them because they are out dated and heavy compared to the ex and he has already replaced them.

Don't get me wrong, the Warrior has been a good quad to me. I bought it for $1000 because it was all scraped up from bouncing off a trailer on the freeway:eek: And it had been sitting for 2 years. Pipe, jet, filter, cleanup, and away I've went. Been riding it for a year and a half with nothing but maintenance done to it. But I'm thinking it's time for more power. Of course, it doesn't help that I ride with all 450 guys, and my boss's TRX450 is actually a 552 now, and puts out more horsepower than my Samurai.

Nowadays the 450s are the only way to go. I think if you get a 400ex you will soon think its outdated (cuz it is) and will want to upgrade to a 450. Price wise im sure you could find a decent 04-05 450 for around $3000. If you're stuck on a 400 then look into a z400/KFX/DVX since youll get a little more bang for your buck. They have a little more power, liquid cooling, resevoir shocks (on the 05s an up) and are equally reliable. Any of these will be WAY better than a warrior.

Last summer I bought a Warrior, my buddy bought a 400ex. His was great, mine was underpowered. I thought I always wanted a warrior until I bought one. Would never buy another one. 400 EX is the way to go, the warriors have lots of head problems at the exhaust. Just my opinion, and your money!
