D-max or Quadrasteer

Guys I need a little help deciding what to get for next rig.

Currently I lease a 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 with a 5.3 and 4.10 gears. I would tow the slide in camper and old cruiser(5000) on the trailer good. My only beef with it was small axle. Never gave me trouble but I knew I was taxing it.

Now with the great finacining available and ability to get out of my lease and actually purchasing, I am looking at my options.

1). Chevy or GMC 1500 with Quadrasteer and 5.3 will run me about $130 more per month than my lease.

2). Chevy or GMC 2500HD with D-max and Allison will run me about $155 more per month.

3). Chevy or GMC 2500HD with 6.0L will run me about $50 more per month.

4). Get the wife a smaller car and buy a used tow rig for limited use. Theres a 91 Dodge Cummings dually down the road for $7500.

The thing is I only tow with this about 8-10 times per year, and since I sold the cruiser I will be towing a lighter rig (~3500-4000). The rest of the time my wife drives it to work and back every day ~40 round trip.

What do you guys think?

I personally think you would be better off getting the wife a car and buying the Cummins down the street. That way you have th ebest of both worlds...

if you like driving the cummings, i woudl go with that.. and let the wife pick out what she wants... but then, what does she want to drive, a commuter car, or a 2500 GMC?

I'd go with the $7500 rig down the street and get whatever as a DD. Or, DD the Cummins...

I worked on a commercial for the new GM 2500 HDs and the quadra steers. The quad steer is really cool. The problem I had with the trucks was the fact that the bed was so thin that you could bend/dent the bedrails just by grabbing ahold of them and climbing up onto the rear tire and in.:eek: $40K+ truck and the bed is a POS and these were the HDs. :shaking:

Guess that's GM's way of making you buy that plastic bed, to make the sheet metal as thin as my Tacoma's is?:D

Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll let the wife decide. She really loves driving the GMC 1500. She said it has to have all wheel drive and sit taller than a car. Has trouble easing into a car with her MS. She was also eyeing an Envoy, but for that cost I might as well get a PU.

So who knows, maybe she'll want another truck to cruise around in. And she even mentioned she wouldn't mind a d-max!

So if you had to chose between a D-Max and Quadrasteer what would it be?

DURAMAX but make sure you get a good extended warranty, those things having been prove in the long run yet.

well the wife decided on a new rig. We're getting the quadra-steer. I know noone picked that, but after we took it for a test drive she fell in love with it.

It handles great, turns on a dime. It actually feels like the back half isn't there. I would have loved to get a D-max, but I gotta keep the wife happy. Plus I can't wait to get a loaded trailer on this and give it a whirl. Backing the trailer up and making lane chages should be sweet.

Take on for a spin and you'll see what I mean. I also figure if(when) they come out with a D-max and Qudrasteer I may just have to upgrade.

P.S. Cory, you probably never get me out of a GM. Considering I get a great discount. Will save about $6k on this one.
