This build up is rather old school but who says old school doesn't work? I love 1/4 elliptic on my zuk and the owner of this rig wanted it too :D. The guy he bought it from has 1/4 elliptic as well which is probably a bigger factor he he. I'm building this for a friend that doesn't have time but I don't either lol.

I haven't really worked on Jeeps that much as I've always been a Zuk fan due to my budget so this ought to be fun.

So on to the tech!

Previous setup. Waggy 44's, spool rear, ARB front, Atlas II (staying of course), Alcan 2" lift SPOA springs, and 37" Boggers. Some of the old parts will be posted in the classifieds as soon as I get my privileges back lol.

This setup worked flawlessly for him and it went through hell and back with only minor issues. We all want to go bigger even though the rig may have done most everything needed.

On to the new setup.

Dana 60's front, rear, and linked up. He decided to go with a rear 60 since he already had it and will be upgraded to 35 spline later. The front is Ford high pinion to match the drivers side output. The biggest bummer is that the axle is a late 80's model which the spring perches are 37"s apart so the front will be linked.

He ordered a kit from Avalanche Engineering to link the back which also came with springs. What it didn't come with was the spring mounts and adjustable upper link brackets. The brackets that came with it had one setting and I wanted him to be able to adjust the geometry.

The way they showed in the pictures was to build a pivot mount and the spring would rest on the bump stop and would allow the spring to free fall at droop.

I like when the suspension has resistance so I built solid mounts at the frame.

The lower spring plate will be bent up to the frame and welded open root for max strength for when it hits rocks. Not welded to the frame of course for ease of spring removal.

The shackles will be built in a pivot style setup not shown in the pictures.

Also in the kit was a very tiny gusset which I assumed was supposed to go from the truss to to pumpkin for reinforcement. I had a better idea and took a piece of tube which made me feel better due the forces that will be seen.

While the axle was stretched back 8"s the stock brake line location would not work. I decided to run the brake lines down the upper link to the axle but since the mounts are adjustable I could not weld the tabs directly to the tube.

I took a piece of exhaust tubing and cut a strip out for the brake line. What makes it even better is that I used a stock Samurai brake hose to go from the frame on to the link :tisk: :P. From there it goes to a hard line and to the stainless brake hose that came off of the old setup. I found some cool screw clamps with blingin yellow tabs to make it a little quicker for adjustment.

Here is how it looks currently. I am not setting the rear spring brackets in stone or I mean metal yet until we get the front setup. We have decided on coils for now to save some money as there is a lot more to be addressed $$.

I am also considering lowering it a couple inches to keep it squatted on the tires which is the way I like it for obvious reasons. I did not measure the height before I started  but the eye measuring tape says it's only slightly taller with the 42's lol.

The rear does have some rear steer and later on will be addressed with triangulating the lower links. In the mean time I will be starting on the front soon which we haven't decided on a Poly Performance kit or me building it. The way I look at is by the time I build the brackets we could have a pre-built kit to save time. The deadline on the project is Memorial Day weekend to head out to Montrose!

Holy shit! is that a can of PB on the hood? If so, that's great and more build pics needs some PB cameos. Any way nice build.

Yeah good old PBR :D. Hopefully I will make enough progress this weekend to justify an update he he

There is a spring pin just like on any other leaf spring that keeps it centered in the plate.

Thanks for the comments :D.

I got around to finishing the lowers links yesterday and got to cycling the suspension in the front. Coil mounts and shocks are still to come.

looking very sweet any updates on this bulid and is there a reason why you did not traulate the uppers or lowers on the front also how does 3/4 elip preform better or worse to say coils or air shocks ?

Noice build! My friend has a YJ with a rear QE suspension. Steve from AE is a mutual good friend of ours and he supplied the parts to do the QE. One thing they did different was to french the ends of the springs into the frame using some 1/4wall square tubing. It's much stronger this way and you are not trusting those bolts to hold back the extreme leverage that will be focused right there.
