So, long story short...I was in my driveway last night (~10:30) talking to a guy about fixing his rifle for about 30 minutes...he was leaving and I was going inside for the night, grabbed the ak that I had just built from the truck to take inside, walked around the corner to the back of the house to go inside and some random fuck in black was walking down the steps towards the basement garage about ~25ft away. I was thinking he was planning on stealing my tools but hadn't taken anything yet. Wrong. Anyway, I racked the AK and yelled "I'M GOING TO KILL YOU MOTHERFUCKER" and he took the fuck off. I chased but laid down the rifle. He got away into the woods about 500yds later.
I wasn't too worried about it at first since I thought he hadn't actually taken anything but turns out, while I was in the fucking driveway he walked in the backdoor...took keys, went through the medicine cabinet and grabbed a wallet. Wallet and some pills were found in the woods sans money and a debit card, no keys though. I'm still livid.


ANYWAY, I want a taser (not stun gun). I can't shoot the fuck outside legally, but I could have dropped his ass on the stairs and ended it there. What are my choices, what are the legalities of one, and which hurts the worst? I want near-death experience.

1. Legalities depend on your jurisdiction.

2. What hurts worse is getting drive stunned. You do not want to do that except as a last resort.

3. I don't keep up with the civilian Tasers, I heard/seen that they stay on longer than LEO models. Correct me if I'm wrong.

4. Just like everything else in life, there's some things to take into consideration with the Taser. There's some marksmanship that comes into play and yes, people do miss, although I'm pretty deadly around office walls:laughing:

5. As for the pain factor, it's really not that bad (probes that is). The Taser just disables the ability for the brain to move your body. You can sit there while getting tased and tell your brain to move this that and the other, unfortunately the Taser overrides that.:evil: In every instance where the subject was not dogpiled immediately, they were able to get right back up. Personal experience, I couldn't hardly move the next day because I was so damn sore. Most folks that I know that have been tased do not want a second go ride on the ride. In fact, I know of two cases where the person was tased and as soon as we showed up, they went from Billy Badass I'm Gonna Kill Everyone and Yo Momma to Mr. Compliant because they did not want to meet Deputy Taser for a second time.

Very simple, go to the Taser website and research the civilian models. From what I understand, they are almost the same thing as what law enforcement carries and they sure as hell operate on the same principle and you will find very few cops who, after checking it out, don't want it. It's very effective.

I probably would have crept up on him and hit him in the face the ass end of my ak, or pushed him down the stairs and told on him.

same here...hollow points all the way...the ol' lady owns a stun gun for when were out and about simply cuz we haven't gotten her a pistol small enough for her to carry...plus it works well in NYC since you can't carry a pistol in that shit hole of city...personally i would put the fucker down, a judge would have gone easy on you or simply thrown it out or even it made the news and turned into an outrage if you went to jail or something.....just my opinion; i could be wrong..

The mag that was in the rifle was full, so at that point it was loaded. Had I have known he had already been in the house, things might have turned out differently. Now that I think back about it I wish I would have run up and buttstroked him in his fawking head. Hindsight 20/20, etc. Things are just different when they actually happen, even if you do train for them. I don't like the thought of "less than lethal" weapons either, but this is NC...not TX. I would still be in jail had I have even taken a shot.

It also pisses me off that the taser company doesn't let you buy "practice" rounds, so it's pretty much shooting blindly.

You don't need any practice cartridges really. It's just about point and squeeze, although there's a few little things you need to keep in the back of your mine. So far, I have never missed with mine. Two walls ranging out to four feet:homer:, practice shoots during recert at about 10 and a suspect somewhere in the neighborhood of 18 feet (I should have missed that shot, but didn't for some reason). People miss and in fact, the guy that I got on that long range shot, it was a second shot because the first guy missed.

If someone racked an AK and said they were going to kill me, I would be all assholes and elbows too.

There isn't much you can do when they run, though I probably wouldn't have dropped the AK during the pursuit.
