: Rise up an get'yo bodylift on
madcowdungbeetle 07-13-2002, 05:11 PM Just completed RTE Bodylift install Day 1. I've got all of the prepwork done, I just need to install the spacers and the new body bolts, and put everything back together. If I had gotten an earlier start I could've been done, and some help would defintely make this go a whole lot faster. The hardest part so far was getting the steering shaft out and even that wasn't hard...once I got it going in the right direction. Tommorow morning I'll finish everything up, and then get the steering shaft welded on Monday (I dunno how to weld yet..I suck. I know :flipoff2: ) Anyways here's a couple pics from today:

Things'll be lookin' up when I get my shaft extended on Monday :flipoff2:

About 2-3 more paychecks and it's gonna be swappin' time... then it's gonna start gettin' fun! :D :D

Serious One 07-13-2002, 05:22 PM Lookin' good man! I think that lift is pretty sweet.
Lengthening your shaft might hurt a little. Doesn't the doctor usually prescribe some bed-rest after that operation?
You'll still be able to pee standing up, right????

Discosaurus 07-15-2002, 08:13 AM Man, I still fear the bodylift will cause some top heavy issues in nasty side slope terrain. Even more with a tall spring lift.
When you're done, load up your roof rack and hit some steep side hills and let us know if it feels scary-tippy. Hope not cuz I want to do that too !
How much spring lift do you have ? I forgot if you still had sway bars...

I'd be curious to what the Body Lift does to your CG. That's the only thing keeping me from getting one.
So the kit is fairly easy to install, just labor/time intensive? That's good news as well. Hmmmmmmm. This may be a much easier way to put 35's on my Rangie. Although cutting is much more fun:D
J bradley 07-15-2002, 05:31 PM Jon- Want to go to Tellico and stretch those legs the weekend of July 19-23 or anytime in there ? email me at tallbrad@hotmail.com if so.

road1will 07-15-2002, 05:40 PM the bodylift will do a lot less to your CG than a 2" spring lift would!!! this is because all the heavy components like the frame, engine, transmission, and transfer case all stay put.
i mean jeez, you could fill your frame with lead and have a hella low CG, because it would be heavy and relatively low.
m016324 07-15-2002, 11:25 PM so where are the updated pics of the truck with the lift installed? (Waiting patiently to convince my buddies gf to put one on here truck) I am curious how noticeable it is. On John's truck (Rovertym) the body lift is pretty pronounced and I've never been a fan of the body gap but I am curious how it will look on your truck and if the bumper will cover it up. Post the pics!!!!

landrover108 07-16-2002, 12:07 PM does anyone know of a 1 inch body lift available for the disco? I want about 1 more inch of lift when i go to a bigger tire, and i feel that the RTE 3 inch springs plus 2 inch body would be too much lift, i would rather do some extra cutting to get them to stuff.
thanks

madcowdungbeetle 07-16-2002, 07:36 PM Alright, sorry for the delay, its been a real pain finishing the thing up, it kept wanting to pour down when I wanted to work on the thing. Well I got the steering shaft back from the machine shop today, and they did a really nice job on the steering shaft. They slotted it in the top so the allen bolts could be used to guide the shaft ensuring perfect alignment. They also did some serious welding to the thing to ensure the thing ain't comin' apart.
I finshed up tonight, and took the Disco out for a spin. It defintly feels taller, but I really don't notice any increase in body roll. I'll be able to give a better oppinion of this after I take it to work and back tommorrow.
The body gap is there at the front and rear bumpers, though it doesn't really bother me, though some it might. I'll eventually build my own wraparound rear bumper, that will take the body lift into account so that will no longer be an issue.
Some comments about the body lift"
It wasn't hard to do, a few things were a pain becuase they were hard to reach, and some times seized up. The process is simple and straight forward, you just have to keep up with what you have and haven't done, and just take your time.
HAVE A SECOND PERSON....this thing takes forever all by yourself, and having an extra person is nice for repositioning the bullbar and just helping speed things along.
Only problem I had was the final body mount bolt had seized in the rear body bushing and wouldn't come loose......Nothin' a baby sledge couldn't fix, :flipoff2:
Here are some pics, they suck since it was dark out, but if anyone wants a pic of anything specific or any close ups, PM me and I'll take a pic and email it to ya.
My Extended Shaft!

Well thats it for now, lemme know if there are any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Now that the body lift is on, it's time to do some axle huntin' :flipoff2: 37 :D :rasta:
