: any info, on the 38x13x16 Swamper,16x8" wheels,?
webilt 10-06-2001, 09:27 PM I'm thinking of selling my 14.5x38.5x15 Sxs ,on steel 10x15, 8-lugs and getting some 38x13x16 TSLs on either 16x8, or 16x10 aluminum 8-lug 589s,(see question below), reason is due to a Dana 44 up front, (possible a little less weight will = longer axle life?) ,and my Toyota 3.0 V-6,, is now like a worn out carbed 4 cyl in the power dept.!!, and I think I will loose some weight with the alum rims/narrower tires,, not to mention possibly a better balanced tire,(daily driver, for now),, my question is;I know the 16" wheel also has a safety bead, and I dont think they make a 15" 8-lug alum. wheel?,.. will a 8" wide wheel hold the bead better with the 13" wide tire at low pressue than a 10" wide will ?..
I had 14.5 SSRs on 10"wide 589s and never lost a bead at 8psi,, but I have never owned a narrower wheel,,,,,,,,, Thanks in advance!!

wheelinjp 10-06-2001, 09:35 PM Well I have 36 12.5s and I pop beads all the time with 15x10s. I have looked into the 16in option and I would say 16x8s. The 13in tire has a narrower section width than the 36 12.5 I believe so the narrower wheel should hold it. Bead locks work even better but I just cant find a money tree anywhere so I just run them at 10 to 12 psi.
Never heard of a 38x13 R16 swamper?
webilt 10-06-2001, 09:48 PM wheelinjp,, I too noticed that the 13" wide TSL has a narrower section width than the 12.5,,, I dont know of anyone who has the 13s,I would like to see some mounted in person,, or even talk to someone who has them,, before I jump in with both feet and buy them,,, Thanks ~
webilt 10-06-2001, 09:51 PM DRM,, no "R" in the size,, just a TSL, bias tire,,, 4WheelParts has them , here in No.Cal,..

The R is there - is stands for "RIM"
I was using it to differentiate which one is the rim width.
As far as the size - just checked their web site ans sure enough - that size is there but only in 16" rim
Anybody have a pic of one, or the actual specs???
webilt 10-06-2001, 10:08 PM Ahh,, o.k.. I thought you might have been referring to the tire being a "R"adial,my mistake,, In the Swamper web site,, they mention a 10x16 recommended rim width, for the 13" wide tire?,, but they also recommend a 15x12 wheel width for a 16x35x15 Bogger,? I would think a 8" wide wheel would work though (for the 13" wide tire)
Adam Ant 10-06-2001, 10:18 PM if You are Looking at a Balancing and a Bead Staying rim hand's Down go the 8 Inch Wheel
I have Personally never seen the 13 inch wide TSL's But have seen alot Of 12.50 on 8 Inch wheel's And It Has No Problems On the Bead issue !!!! And You say the tread Width is Narrower on the 13inch wide tire Go to Four Wheel parts And see if they Will mount One For you??? on A 8 Inch Wide Wheel! Worst thing they Would Say Is NO!
You can try?? EH!!
My .02 cent's

DRM, it's the 16" version of the 38X12.50. Like the 15" version, this tire was originally stamped 37X13 right up until the day the 36X12.50 came out. Not sure why they kept the 13" stamping on the 16" version instead of 12.50, but it has the same overall dimensions as the 15" version - meaning true diameter of 36-36.5".

VT_Toy 10-08-2001, 10:04 AM Interco recommends rims that are too wide for low pressure off-road.
The tires in the ebay pic have the same outer lug design as my 34x9.5s, the lugs really stick out to the sides. Interesting
webilt 10-08-2001, 06:27 PM Thanks for finding a pic of the tires, coloradok5,, those are alot narrower than I expected,, and even on 10" wheels !!,, I think I will just stay with the 14.5x38.5s for now,,,
