Hey Flamdyj, I just got an XRC8 the other day. Haven't had A chance to really use it yet, but I dragged my heep across my gravel parking lot, with the parking brake set. It seemed to work just fine! I haven't used A real winch since I drove A tow truck, back in the 1980's, but I do think this one will be fine for my YJ.:homer:

not to hijack but i got my mile marker from 4wp several years ago for $450.00.the prices on mile marker are still really low.i bought the "lifetime no exclusions warranty" for $50.00.they have replaced my winch three times allready for free.each time upgrading it to a newer style.

granted i use my winch more than most folks i know.prolly 20 or 30 times a month as a trail leader.any winch you buy will wear out,get a good warranty and youll be set.

For the price the Smitty would be worth a try. The Warn is a great winch but alittle pricey. I run a Tmax and like it better than my old Warn but I will probably run a Smitty on my cherokee. Cant beat the price.

Warn or go home....

You get what you pay for. There has always been two camps on this subject, the warn guys who shell out the extra cash and they work for years and years without issues, and then theres everybody else that buy winches that work for a few years and need to be sent back. I paid more for the re-assurance that when i needed my winch the most, it would take a near act of god for it to let me down.

everything has a usefull lifespan.winches engines,t-cases.you only get so much out of mechanicall equipment and machinery before it wears out.if you want to pay more feel free, but you dont have to.

ive seen plenty of broken warn winches..................for what its worth.

And ive seen Warn winches nearly as old as me and still in use, and nearly new non warn winches that do nothing more then look cool on the front of somebodys jeep because they got smoked.... Plus with shittybilts product track record you couldn't pay me to put one on my Jeep, every product ive seen from them is either complete shit or built for the mall wheelers. I remember them back when they were still Steelhorse and bone-ing people left and right before they "went under" and restarted up under Smittybilt name.

Im not saying its a bad winch, im just saying if i were a betting man my money wouldn't be on them thats for sure. As the old saying goes, pay once and cry once.....

Just got a warn m8000 this past February. Used it for its first time on aftershock at the Hammers(And I will use this thing every time I go to the Hammers). Its fast, strong, Don't need to stand on the in button. All I did was bump the in button to gently pull my way through this one spot. It worked great!!

Im glad I went this route. I feel as long as I take care of my winch and not abuse it, It should last forever.

And the price was actually pretty good. got mine through 4WheelParts. they do price match and gave me a damn good deal on the mount plate kit and snatch block as one full price!!

Just quote a price from Winchdepot when you call them up.

I have a Warn M8000 and it is awesome. Really it was only $100 more than the prices quoted here for other brands (I paid $525).

But what about a Tabor? Aren't they made by Warn and just labeled differently to compete with the off brands? Not sure about that, but I think it is the case. Just a thought,...

t-Max is a happy medium I think. It is not as expensive as the Warn, but has a higher perceived quality (atleast to me). T-Max also has similar styling to the Warn, I think that the mile marker and smittybuilts look a little funny. I have a 9,000lb T-Max on my TJ and love it, I don't use mine as often as many people here do but I have had no complaints at at all.

I personally have the Warn M8000, but recently saw a winch comp where the mile marker out lasted the rest. But I would still stick to warn.:D
