: Locrite dana 30 install question
Monkeyboy 07-13-2002, 09:23 PM All right I'm to drunk to spell well enough to use the search feature.
I'm installing a locrite into my XJ's Dana 30 front.
It has an axle disconnect so the long side axl has a Cclip.
To install the centerpin in the locrite you need to remove the ring gear.
once the locrite is in I don't have room to put the cclip on
What do I need to do to get this thing together with the the C clip
I had the whole fawking thing together then realized I didn't put the C clip in.
Help my drunk ass get this thing together with the C clip
Monkeyboy 07-13-2002, 09:30 PM Dude where Is the help when I am drunk with me heep apart and really in need of help.
Fawk when I'm completely sober on the trail stopped to pick up some one elses beer can I have an average of sixty five people ask if I need any help:flipoff2:
Monkeyboy 07-13-2002, 09:34 PM I even tried searching and my fawking post with the question poppped up Don't tell me I need to go over to JU and have them help my sorry drunk ass.
Monkeyboy 07-13-2002, 09:51 PM Ok Fawk you guys.
I've decided I don't need the C clip :D
Victor 07-13-2002, 11:05 PM C clip on a d30? you are talking about the front axle? I put in a lockrite on my front D30. Didn't have no stinkin C clips!
In the case of a YJ (94 in this case), the axle shafts are held in by 3 bolts from the outside. When you say a disconnect, do you mean a vacuum disco? Still didn't use a c clip it just slides in and is held the same way on both sides. If you REMOVED a C clip, then it is different than mine and I don't know the answer.
If you have any more questions I'll be happy to help
Monkeyboy 07-13-2002, 11:10 PM Whats up Victor :D
Does your D30 have a vacum disconnect?
If it does thats all the proof I need that I don't need that little c clip.
Victor 07-13-2002, 11:11 PM see the edit on my last post.
Oh and how are those rims working out?
Monkeyboy 07-13-2002, 11:18 PM The rims are perfect.
Remember how I said that the scrathces on the edged weren't anything to worry about :D
I made plenty more scratches.
First trail run I had to pound the bead back on 2 of the rims So the tires would hold air.
guess thats what I get for averaging 15 MPH on the trail :D
So you do have a vacum disconnect and I guess that means I don't need that fawking pain in the A$$ c clip.
Thank
Todd
Victor 07-13-2002, 11:26 PM Heh, nice thing about steel rims is that you CAN pound em back when they get bashed.
Anyway, the YJ has a vacuum disco (I replaced mine with a posi-lock, but it makes no difference). If you did not remove a C clip then it does not need one, mine did not use any C clips, HOWEVER,if you removed a C clip, then I don't want to give you bad advice. Mine never had one. It was a liitle difficult doing the front lockrite but it worked out fine, though you Will notice a big difference in steering while in 4WD(not for the better), though in 2wd I don't even notice it is there. Its great on the trail, but you will never want to drive in 4wd on pavement again
Monkeyboy 07-13-2002, 11:31 PM The install went pretty smoth until My drunk ass got concerned with the left over C clip that I later decided leave out.
So I have completely installed a locrite twice into my dana 30 tonight.
I have an extra vacum disconnect laying around I'm going to see if I can use one of them cheap manual choke cables and make a manual disconnect.
Ah yes steel wheels I don't think I will ever stray to far away from them.
Victor 07-13-2002, 11:37 PM So you did actually pull a C clip out of your original setup? Mine never had one. I assume it came from the short side (not the side with the disco). the other side is a 2 peice axle with the inner side splined into the lockrite on the inside and the other end slips into the sleeve of the disco. the outer 2 peice section shouldn't use a c clip but floats inside the sleave of the disco or freewheels inside the housing. Hope this helps. Are you sure that you took a C clip out? or was it perhaps tossed into the lockrite kit by accident?
jdjanda 07-13-2002, 11:39 PM Did you have a :nuke: at your place? Couldn't manage to start one doing a tranny R&R :D
Monkeyboy 07-13-2002, 11:56 PM Did I have :nuke: at my house Nope but from the looks of the dana 30 parts and tools all over my driveway it sure looks like something exploded
Insayn 07-14-2002, 09:28 AM Some Dana 30's had a c-clip to retain the intermediate shaft. I am not sure why some have them and some don't. We ran into it during an install and left the c-clip out and he hasn't had a reported problem since.
JEEP_TJ_FREAK 07-14-2002, 09:52 AM My D30 has a C-clip too, I don't think I will be able to reinstall it after I fill them gears with 7018 though.
It would be interesting to me to see if there is any length difference between an intermediate shaft from a C-clip unit and a non C-clip. My 8.8" the shafts but right up against the crosshaft, so those clips are only keeping the shaft from walking out, my D30 had some gap between the axle shaft and the crosshaft so I can see how it could cause a problem on the disco end.
Slagburn 07-14-2002, 05:05 PM What Insayn said
bent70 07-14-2002, 05:12 PM finally getting that locker in:D
I never had any c-clips either when it was in my 30.
Monkeyboy 07-14-2002, 06:25 PM It's in and it works.
I was able to climb one tire to the top of my 3 foot tall vertical retaining wall in my backyard.
Thanks for all the help.
Oh ya and I compared the two intermediate shafts I had.
On for the c clip and thie other with out the groove.
They were the same length so I guess it is a part that is really not necessary.
