I just purchased a t-case and tranny combo today, stock 4 speed tcase and tranny and I'm trying to pull the two apart. I've gotten all the bolts off and the units have separated about a 1/4 inch but I can't get anymore. I tried prying and pushing and everything but no luck. Is there a trick to it? Thanks

Did you get the two bolts that are hidden in the transfer case? Accessed via the PTO cover? Only time I ever had a problem seperating a cruiser tranny/transfer was when I installed a new bearing on the output shaft w/o the correct spacer, and had to seperate them again. That bearing was so tight I had to stick a crowbar between the two and jerk till I got the transfer off. If you do this, be really careful not to bugger up the aluminum mounting face of the transfer.

Is it normal for the bearings to come out also? or should just the splined portion of the shaft come out?

You just need to put a puller on the transmission output shaft and pull against the transfer case input bearing cover bolts. I used a cheesy $5 steering wheel puller and a couple or short lengths of chain, but you can also use a gear puller. It is the splines of the input geat on the transmission output shaft that cause the resistance. The bearing usually does not come out, but it doesn't matter if it does because you will be taking it out anyway.

I used the same thing, chain and all! This was right after using a POS slide hammer that :nuke: on me, almost braking my wrist!

Andrei,
Don't listen to Jimmy, the guy is just about as high as a $5.00 whore in downtown San Francisco. :flipoff2: Seriously, did you get it apart yet? I think you are just gonna have to pry them apart.

I put it back together. I'm just gonna give it to mudrak and let him do it. What takes me 4 hours should only take him 3 minutes. I figure he won't mess anything up either :)
